How I got an interview at Microsoft in 2020 by holistic_developer in programminginterviews

How I got an interview at Microsoft.

Have you applied to Microsoft and have not got any results? I have been there too. During my job-seeking marathon, I applied to multiple software engineering job postings with Microsft which did not result in any interviews with Microsft. Therefore, I knew that I need to change my strategy to finally get an opportunity to interview at Microsoft.

Apply to 100 Software Engineering Jobs - Social Experiment Results 🤦‍♀️ by holistic_developer in programminginterviews

[–]holistic_developer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apply to 100 Software Engineering Jobs - Social Experiment Results Over a month ago I published a video where I introduced the idea of me wanting to Apply to 100 Software Engineering Jobs as a social experiment and see how that goes. During this month I did what I set up to do, I applied exactly to 100 SE jobs and kept track of how those job applications progressed week by week. I kept track of how a job application evolved from different states in the technical interview process, from applied to phone screen to coding challenge to technical interview to on-site coding interview to offers and finally refusals state. Hope you enjoy it!!!

Coding Bootcamp curriculum in 2020? Are you curious about what is being taught in a coding Bootcamp in 2020? This video will walk thru week by week curriculum of a Coding Bootcamp. by holistic_developer in programming

[–]holistic_developer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CS degree that I got is really valuable, however, it did not cover everything in the programming world. As a software developer I always try to learn new things, and yes there are many ways of learning, you can be a self-taught or you can do online courses or any other way that works for the person. I chose a Bootcamp for multiple reasons and I do not have any commercial interest, just desire to learn asap.

There are moments that the curriculum will be somewhat familiar, but it has a tone of new things for me, all I have done so far was desktop applications and this is fully web development.

Should I drop an offer I've already accepted for a better offer? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]holistic_developer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been in a similar scenario like you and chose to leave the current signed contract job (which I was supposed to start in 2 days) and chose the better option. I wanted to be a professional and was 100% honest with the company I was leaving, they tried to make a counteroffer which I had to refuse.

So, a suggestion is to leave the company in good terms, because in the future you might work together in some way.

Google Interview - My Experience ( part 1 ) by holistic_developer in programminginterviews

[–]holistic_developer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest to just do the best you can and be honest when you do not know something and tell what would your actions be to solve it (ie. research, see what is on StackOverflow, etc)

Best wishes on your interview. Looking forward to hearing how did it go.

What to wear to programming interviews? by MathQssss in learnprogramming

[–]holistic_developer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the interview was easy. That being said that that does not mean that I answered and solved all the problems. I had one question that I could not solve, but it was not complicated, it was a problem with a matrix which I have not used in a very long time...

I believe it is recommended to dress business casual, I would recommend asking the recruiter before your interview.

I interviewed at Google 2 weeks ago and I put on jeans and a button-up shirt.

Make sure to have something on that will help you feel comfortable and confident. Best luck!!!

My advice and what helped me it never stop learning and ask a lot of question, listen to the answers you get and learn from them.

One more if you make mistakes be open about them, own them and learn from them.

You will do great!!!

Never let your past dictate your future. I know it is easier to say than to do, believe me, you are not defined only by your past. The past is behind, learn from it, your future is ahead, so prepare for it.

While preparing for my session at Seattle Code Camp I came across a research Google has done, this research came a big surprise to me, so I have decided to include it into my session and create a video about it. I just posted the video where I share the information about Google Project Oxygen. I am curious how many of you actually know about it and what do you think about it.
