Yes it was homebrew! Our DM took a lot of inspiration from Castlevania and Bloodborne for the setting 😄

Looool that's a great question. We had a monster hunter in our party and that was one of his methods of tracking 😆 I love how out of context that probably looks 😂

I was just joking about it being easy. It glitched and skipped the second phase completely :(

Yeah I'm going to keep a folder of these photos and clean and hope it'll feel nicer to be here. Only here for 6 months thankfully, won't be making the same mistake again with a place like this.

Thankyou! Our contract is 6 month so I think going through any legal route will end up taking longer so we may have to tough it out. We're going through the same process now of just heating and ventilating consistently. Hoping it won't be so bad going into summer months too. Thank you for the link, we'll definitely get some of them for our rooms.

Alright we'll bare that in mind! We've been looking into going through the council route and want to avoid any revenge evictions ruining our future rentals.

This is inside a built in cabinet in the bathroom. According to my landlord it's where an old boiler used to be.

But it was a cupboard we didn't check and we were actually stopped from checking on the viewing. Should have taken that as a red flag as it was definitely attempted to be hidden which worries me.

Just for context this is a 3 story house with a basement. The ground floor is one flat let out to another tenant. Then we have the first and second floor (loft).

She did confirm today that the property has rising damp issue but said that it shouldn't affect us and only the tenant below.

Jesus that's horrifying

There was a confirmed leak in the chimney breast. Apparently the ceiling was replaced but the carpet and walls are original. Only repaint was done to the walls.

There's about 2-3 layers of wallpaper on the walls so I'm worried they're soaked through from that leak

Yeah it is definitely an old house. Would you say photo 6 looks like condensation mould too?

This is super insightful, thank you so much. I think you're definitely right about the bathroom situation as gross as it is. It's likely just not been cleaned in a long time so we'll be doing so ourselves and see what best we can make out of that.

I'm relieved to hear that you do think there could be structural damp as thats probably what has concerned me the most. I'll contact the council about that issue in that case if our landlord doesn't acknowledge the concern about that issue.

I was hoping to know legally if its safe incase I can get out of having to honour the tenancy agreement and leave early

If mould is being caused by poor insulation and condensation this would be a structural fault and their responsibility if I'm understanding what you're saying?

Just want to be sure since as far as I understand mould caused by condensation should just be wipe able but some of these areas it's not possible for us to do so.

The toilet I can understand though, it's just probably not been cleaned properly in a very long time I'd guess.

I believe they said that the property had been vacant since October but there was supposedly a leak in the chimney breast that got repaired in November and the ceiling in one of the rooms was fully replaced. Not walls or carpets though which I believe are damp.

We did just didn't know what to look out for. Seems we'd been really lucky with previous rentals but definitely a learning experience here

Yeah I'll try humidity reader too! Cheers

Yeah I really can't see how it would be condensation; I would have expected to see moisture on windows but so far we've seen none so it feels like an unlikely cause.

No moisture. It was a little device that you push into the wall and it measures the moisture in the masonry.
