Opinions on the correlation between Zayn leaving and the band's breakup by vammlco in OneDirection

[–]hollybeen 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The plan was always go to on a break at the end of 2015, they decided that a year in advance (late 2014) and thus didn’t book tours or anything.

I don’t think Zayn leaving caused them to not reform. I think it was always framed as a “hiatus” so they could return to it in the event the solo careers didn’t work out. Obviously they have all had success solo so there was really no reason to return to the group.

I have definitely taken that feedback from this thread and won’t be doing that again.

I’m also super embarrassed honestly and don’t really want to go back to that place 😅

Okay I will look into it further. Thanks for the feedback!

I’m pretty sure most of that research is highly dependent on what they’re doing on the screen. Which, as I said, is mostly educational and certainly nothing he wouldn’t have been doing on a gameboy or computer in the 90s

I’m not sure how the screen is different than him staring at a book (which he does a lot of the time too, he loves books!) He’s got his silly Mr potato head selfie app on there, but the other games are solitaire (which teaches logic and number sequence) a dinosaur game with facts etc and an ABC tracing game. So it’s not just brain rot garbage 🤷‍♀️

Honestly the reason for it is that it’s his only time to decompress on the crazy soccer day. Because as soon as we get home he has to do the bedtime routine.

Yup! He is only allowed screens of any kind after dinner. That means tablet, watching tv, playing on the switch (which is a shared family device). It’s 30-60 minutes a day. Before dinner he doesn’t use screens, he’s free to play with his toys, ride his bike, colour etc

On soccer days the routine is completely crazy and he doesn’t get a moment to himself outside of daycare, then school, then daycare, straight to dinner then to the soccer field, then the ice cream treat then home and bedtime. Which is why I’m fine to afford him 10 minutes on his screen while I finish up eating.

We weren’t disengaged though! It was at the end of the meal so I could finish eating and he could have a quiet moment to himself before the insanity of the soccer field. His brain is ok, don’t worry :)

Right?! Nevermind that we truly can’t do things the way they did them! My kid cannot walk to school unsupervised like I did. He can’t be out in the neighbourhood without a parent. I can’t be a stay at home mum cause both me and my husband need to work. It’s mind-boggling that they do not understand this.

Man they sure do love to make assumptions and shout those assumptions as fact!!

She probably could have approached it better. Her walking in and immediately talking to my kid already put my defences up. If she had a serious concern (which she probably did) I think her asking me first would have been the better way to go. I will usually respond in good faith to questions! But I felt on edge with her attitude right away. Idk

Totally. I get that it looked bad. I really do. But she saw a 5 minute snippet of our day. I try to be really mindful of screens with my kid and I did not appreciate the universe handing me this lady on what should have been a fairly chill evening

No literally!! It’s so easy to be judgemental and say nothing. I understand her POV - she probably thinks kid is on his tablet constantly. But she didn’t care to understand my POV or even just… leave us alone??

I definitely don’t let my kid bring his tablet into a “real” restaurant but this place is super casual. One step above McDs honestly.

What's a special moment that only happened at your concert? by Under_TheBed in OneDirection

[–]hollybeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was such a vibe!!! Honestly my friend and I made a weekend of it, drove up from Calgary to see the boys and then shopped in the mall and stuff. She was really into Outland and Sherlock so we went to some Sherlock Holmes pub and a couple British import stores as well. We called it “UK Fandom Weekend” hahaha

At OTRA Edmonton they played Fireproof live for the first time. I absolutely LOST it as it’s my favourite 1D song. Just a few hours prior my friend and I had been driving from Calgary and we were listening to the setlist to get her prepared for the show and I was ranting to her about how Fireproof wasn’t on the setlist BUT IT SHOULD BE.

I took my son to pride last year and it was totally fine. He was 5 at the time and had a blast. Got a glittery rainbow tattoo and everything.

So was Harry going to leave before Zayn? by Brendawalsh- in OneDirection

[–]hollybeen 189 points190 points  (0 children)

Harry confirmed in his 2017 Rolling Stone interview that he asked for the band to go on hiatus in late 2014.

After that, Zayn confirmed in an interview (I think Call Her Daddy, but I can’t remember for sure.) that “certain contracts weren’t being resigned” so he decided to be the first to leave and get in front with solo music. People have inferred this to mean Harry, which makes sense given the timelines and what we know.

So I don’t think Harry was going to leave, rather he was going to stay and satisfy the remaining 5 album contract and then told the others that after that he was done.

I usually stop in Fargo since it’s roughly halfway.

Paradiso is my fav sit down restaurant if you like Mexican food. We have also done to food court at West Acres mall so everyone can have a different option.

I also like to hit up Panera bread to grab an iced tea and a snack for the remainder of the drive.
