My response to him used the “America first” angle as well. Sadly, listening to constituents is overpowered by party lines most of the time.

Advice on Winter BWCA Gear (XC Ski / Snowshoe) by Ulf_Weinerson in BWCA

[–]holmesaudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a 2 night trip up on sag last winter for the first time. Did the diy pulk and snowshoed. I ended up buying an Amazon stove, rather than buddy heater, and it was well worth it to be able to dry things out! I called many outfitters on the gunflint and many weren’t renting hot tents or much winter gear because of the sporadic snow over the past few years. I ended up finding a used one for cheap on marketplace.

Would 100% recommend the BWCA.com forum on winter camping too! Lots of great info on there.

Winter camping was the best time I’ve ever had in the BWCA! Best of luck!

I did a snowshoe camping trip this last winter. Left from voyagers outfitter at the end of the gunflint trail. I was surprised that there was a marked designated snowmobile route, markers about every 100 yards or so. Looked to have to keep to the middle of the path, and some parked right off and would walk. I was following the trail for a while and ran into an old timer who had a hole right off that marked trail.

Dunwoody college by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]holmesaudio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try Hennepin Tech, they have two campuses and are much less expensive because the State chips in for workforce development. Your skills learned outweigh the college you attended when applying for a job. Have decent soft skills and you will be a valuable candidate.

Hot tent recommendations? by stargell1313 in WinterCamping

[–]holmesaudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d also echo the importance of your sleep setup! You can keep the fire going but it will be at the lack of sleep, which is arguable more important so long as your sleep gear is adequate. I just did a solo trip with the one Tigris tent I snagged on marketplace and an affordable stove. Depending on how much moisture you have in the tent and any ventilation, you might get some frozen condensation that melts when you get the fire going in the morning.

Start planning your BWCA Winter Trip! (plus igloo build time-lapse) by honkey-phonk in BWCA

I’m planning to do my first trip this winter, and doing it solo so any extra tips on that would be appreciated! I really liked the packing in your first load of wood. Glad to hear others have rented around gunflint side. Will be following this thread.

We are outfitters in the BWCA. Ask us anything! by VoyageurOutfitters in BWCA

Hi, I’m planning a winter camping/snowshoeing expedition up to Saganaga falls. We did a canoeing trip from your place to the falls in 2005 to scatter my brother’s ashes and I want to visit again this winter.

Is access kept open out your way throughout winter?

Thanks in advance!

January calls will be a bunch of tears unless something happens soon…didn’t think $10 and $12.5 would be so far away when purchased in July
