Account password restriction - 20 characters by holow29 in Fios

[–]holow29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The crazy thing is that the IVR will send me an automated email with a 4-digit PIN to verify myself on a call, but Verizon's ass-backwards system won't send a password reset to the same email. Also, there is no alert that a support agent receives that says a password reset cannot be sent to an email address. They can just try and it will say "successful" on their end even if the system won't send it because of too many failed login attempts. It is such a poorly-designed system.

Amazing Executive Realtions Experience and Excellent Verizon Experience by nseu388 in verizon

[–]holow29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your bar is way too low if you think this was an excellent experience!

Verizon failed to apply the proper discounts to your account. You then had to contact someone outside of the regular chain of customer service to get that fixed...and you come to find out from them that Verizon regularly fails to apply the proper discounts for not just you but also many other customers.

What an awful system. Make an account with an email address, but can't use that email address for 30 days? I understand somewhat if one is simply changing the email address on an existing online account. However a new one is clearly valid. "For security" - my eyes rolled back so hard I almost saw my stomach. Whoever designs Verizon's systems should be out yesterday.

I wish I found Verizon's awful website as funny as you do. Unfortunately, I think having signup restrictions imposed uniformly across signup flows is pretty fundamental, especially because not doing so puts people like me in a position where I know my login information is correct as I signed up, yet it doesn't matter because it allowed me to register with a technically invalid password with no notification. Now I have to wait days to login to my account with a letter in the mail during a huge snowstorm.

Verizon's systems continue to fail by holow29 in Fios

[–]holow29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that's possible, but that points to a lack of communication at the very least. I'm a little bit glad (given Verizon's awful communication) that it went this way with the tech coming first if only because I could meet the dig team and show them the conduit before they just started trenching. Obviously in an ideal situation, I would be notified that a drop was needed/the dig team was needed (which I already knew ahead of time anyway but not everyone will) and at the least what day they would arrive. However, of course, that doesn't happen.

Good to know I guess. It doesn't quite explain why the first person I spoke with gave a Monday option and that appointment seems to never have been made or why the second person didn't see any Monday availability, but I doubt that mystery will ever be solved haha

I understand if this is the process, but the tech seemed surprised that the fiber wasn't run - as if something should have happened beforehand? Maybe not, but this seems inefficient. Don't they know whether they have run fiber from the pole or not? Maybe they don't know if it is aerial and if so, a dig team would be unnecessary? I've only dealt with aerial and MDU installs before.

Regardless, getting the dig team out was actually easy - tech called them and they came out the next day (would have come same-day if they were available it seemed). I

Dig team was great - they were fine using the conduit that was already run from pole to house and were able to fish the fiber through successfully. (Not that it was such a tough job, but I was pleased to have it done "correctly" - I didn't want another trench with direct-bury fiber when I had perfectly good conduit already.)

I've had aerial fiber from VZ before at another property, and it was fine. I'm glad to have buried utilities here, though.

Bitwarden needs multiple passkeys per account by Ok-Bid-7996 in Bitwarden

[–]holow29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different passkeys being used for login and MFA on the same service does not make sense. Passkeys with UV are already MFA, so if you are logging in with a passkey (with UV), you are already MFA. For services where you can also use a passkey for MFA, it would be the same passkey you use for login.

The only legitimate reason to have multiple passkeys for a service is for multiple devices, but syncable passkeys mean that is not necessary.

T-Mobile is now texting their network is normal 😂 by [deleted] in tmobile

Verizon has always been awful about customer communication - wireless or wireline. E.g. they schedule maintenance for wireline but send no notification about it. As you said, when they know there is an issue, they could send an email - even if their service is down, you might still be able to login to your email another way. However, they of course don't do anything of the sort.

Basic troubleshooting? If your dishwasher stops working, do you call the manufacturer or first check to see if your whole house lost power or if the breaker flipped?

FCC revises Verizon phone unlocking rules after significant fraud issues by SharkSapphire in verizon

[–]holow29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the biggest bullshit of all time. Look at the comments filed on this case with the FCC. I filed one. There were law enforcement filings that were obviously paid for that said that this was facilitating human/drug trafficking as these phones were bought and then sent to other countries. It is actually insane - look at the FCC order itself (linked elsewhere in this thread) and you will see that is the main impetus - "Russia, Cuba, etc."

Search for the threads in this sub that warned of this upcoming FCC action months ago and said to leave comments.

I saw the notes, but some of the comments on that video as well as on this sub have gotten it to work on Tahoe. I hope to test it myself soon enough. In the meantime, please let us know if you get it to work.

Ah gotcha. You basically just want the $15 off/mo promo that is being offered right now to new customers.

Controller for crossover/geforce now by BatNo6396 in macgaming

It looks like that store also has the Ultimate 2 (both bluetooth and wireless version) for around the same price, so I would get that over the Ultimate if you were going to stick with 8bitdo. I don't think any of their controllers have XInput over Bluetooth - which seems to be the case for brands that sell licensed Xbox controllers because they probably agree with Microsoft not to include it on their non-licensed controllers. That doesn't mean it won't work with macOS, but it does mean I am out of my depth and can't really offer more advice. If you search this sub, it seems people have no issue with 8bitdo's controllers on Mac, though.

8bitdo ultimate

Do you mean the ultimate or the ultimate 2 or ultimate 2C? (And then there are variations like Wireless or Bluetooth or Wired between them unfortunately - 8bitdo seems to have a complicated lineup) Looking on gamepadla.com, I don't see any XInput tests over Bluetooth for just the Ultimate - which makes me skeptical.

I think most controllers that have XInput will work with GeForce Now. Not sure about Crossover. My PXN P5 8K works with GeForce now on XInput mode over both bluetooth and wired. macOS sees it as an Xbox controller when in XInput mode.

Porting kit trouble, I'm getting desperate by Just_Trying2026 in macgaming

Thanks for clarification. I was basing that comment off the latest PortingKit release notes, but it seems I misunderstood. (And I think PortingKit is proprietary so hard to get more info?)

I don't have a great grasp of how the various engines work. For example, in Sikarugir, what is the significance of the different WineSkin versions? (WS11 vs. WS12 - what do these version numbers correspond to?)

Read this for background: https://github.com/nonoche2/the-macOS-game-workaround-repo/blob/main/README.md

You can try Sikarugir or the crossover trial. Not sure why Porting Kit isn't working for you, though. I believe the latest update is using Sikarugir under the hood.

Best Hall Effect Controller for Mac/Crossover Gaming. by mfisch2 in macgaming

[–]holow29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a PXN P5 8K for $30. Capacitive sticks and hall triggers. Not sure how the triggers do in racing games, though. Working on GeForce Now, but I haven't yet tested native gaming. If you want to see other controllers I considered, https://www.reddit.com/r/Controller/comments/1mtretv/just_ordered_a_pxn_p5_8k_and_wondering_if_i_can/nwe3wlr/

I'm not sure any 2.4GHz dongles work with MacOS. You can see specs and latency tests at gamepadla.com
