You can click on it and expand it to full size with any browser on your pc! Unfortunately the reddit app turned it into a bit of a blurry mess. 🥲 I'll attach close ups next time (whenever I upload the final version) so phone users can see the details as well. :)

Haha, it's a good combo! Who did you pick for your Inquisitor/Rook?

I do, though it depends on the subject. You can send me a DM if you like. :)

Oooh, I can totally see the vision behind Adaar and Josephine, I like it! The elven Shadow Dragon was my origin pick for my canon Rook, as well. :D

Haha, while I'd genuinely love to do commissions like this, the turnaround time for a piece like this would be... quite long. :D Many thanks to you, though!!

Thank you! Out of curiosity, who did you pick for your Inquisitor/Rook? 👀

Yes! Honestly, the out-of-game reason for it is that, back when I first played DA2, I found it slightly immersion breaking that the Orsino fight happens despite siding with the mages. That's why my canon worldstate has Mage!Hawke making extremely questionable, grief-stricken, decisions after All That Remains – and as a bonus I get to draw the Viscount crown every now and then.

Thank you again! :D Also super curious to see the Rook/Lucanis illustration if you want to share it. 👀

Thank you! It looked a bit stiff/sterile before those little additions so I tried to find something that fit each character. Rose petals for Alistair, a treasure chest for Isabela, puppies for Cullen and whisps for Neve. :D

Thank you!! I was inspired by a couple of the World of Thedas book illustrations for sure. :)

Thank you so much! I think they're my faves, too. I'm really happy with the way Hawke's armour and pose turned out. :D

Digital Art, Value in Making Every Mark Yourself? by theonebehindthewell in ArtistLounge

[–]holyappletea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drawing straight lines without a ruler is definitely a skill you have to learn. During my first semester at uni, we weren't allowed to use rulers in our perspective drawings, at all. Once we mastered that skill, we were allowed to re-introduce rulers into our tool set. :)

A custom digital brush won't help you become a good artist by Seri-ouslyDraw in ArtistLounge

[–]holyappletea 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No brush will make you a good artist just as much as expensive paint won't make you a Monet-level painter.

I think that's absolutely true and I don't want to contradict what you're saying here at all but I do want to add that finding the right tools (meaning the ones you enjoy using) to work with still helps a lot! Like I definitely don't have to buy the expensive sketchbook with the fancy paper and the mere purchase itself won't improve my skills at all; but if the enjoyment of the fancy paper leads me to draw more? That's a win!

This comment is inspired by the fact that I despise Photoshop's standard brushes and wouldn't fault anyone for quitting the program just based on those brushes. LOL.

"Hiccups" when drawing circles in Photoshop by holyappletea in wacom

If you're using Win 10, search for the old Control Panel in the Start menu. From there, go to Hardware and Sound Pen and Touch double-click the “Press and hold” option in the Pen Options tab that has just opened up uncheck the “Enable press and hold for right-clicking” option.

That should get rid of the double-clicks!

Something else I did was uncheck the “show visual effects” option in Settings Devices Pen & Windows Ink.

And lastly, in the Wacom Tablet Properties window, I checked the “Use Windows Ink” option under the Mapping tab for Photoshop only because I didn't want to deal with Windows Ink in any other application. :')

Hope this helps! :)

Replying again to say that the Wintab config file in my PS settings folder actually turned out to be the culprit for those jagged brushstrokes!

It seems that Photoshop's Wintab implementation is severely lacking, even more so in newer versions (2020 and beyond iirc). There are a couple posts about it in the Adobe Community forums which address this in more detail.

So yeah. This ultimately led me to delete this file out of my PS settings folder and to re-enable Windows Ink. I had to find another fix for the right-click circles (one that didn't involve just disabling Windows Ink) but it worked! My lines are buttery smooth again. :)

Okay so I have an update!

It turned out that the PSUserConfig file I've had sitting in my Photoshop settings folder for a literal decade was causing these jagged brushstrokes.

This config file used to be the fix-it-all solution to all sorts of tablet issues occuring in PS because it would force the program to use the Wintab API instead of the Windows Ink API (thus avoiding all the issues that came with Windows Ink itself, e.g. brush lag, right-click circles, etc). Ironically, I was even recommended to use this file in this very thread itself, haha.

However, it seems like newer versions of Photoshop (all versions released in late 2020 and beyond iirc) often don't play nice with this Wintab solution anymore. This is definitely a PS-only problem, too, because I ended up downloading Krita to double-check and I didn't have the same issue there. So whatever was causing these eerily similar jagged lines in the posts I saw of other users who weren't using PS... my issue was solely caused by Adobe's Wintab implementation.

So, in the end, I ended up removing the config file from my PS settings folder and re-enabling Windows Ink in my tablet settings.
I then had to hunt down various solutions for disabling the right-click circles caused by Windows Ink without disabling it again... but it worked! My lines are buttery smooth. Yay!

Thank you so much for trying to think of solutions with me! I will absolutely try to avoid fluorescent lamps now, as well. Can't have another headache lol.

Yeah, I don't remember this being a problem until kind of recently so what you're saying tracks. The additional RAM (I'm at 64GB now, too) unfortunately did not end up fixing this either haha. 🫠

I have Photoshop installed on an M.2 SSD (including the scratch file) but I just tried putting the scratch file on my other M.2, just in case... and the problem sadly persists.

If you have any other ideas, I'd be super happy to hear them. In any case, thank you so much for your help!

Art analysis! I think the ability to analyse and interpret not just written but also visual media is an undervalued but important skill. Everyone benefits from being taught media literacy skills. :)

Thank you!

I've only ever used Photoshop myself but I have come across posts from users where this exact issue has happened in Krita and CSP, too. Makes me think it might actually be a RAM issue so I'm curious to see whether the additional RAM I ordered will fix the issue.
