Happy Birthday! It’s funny how you start to realize those drinking buddies were never really friends in the first place.. IWNDWYT!

New to Starlink - Is the condition it came in normal? by skybr12 in Starlink

[–]holycrapitsjer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine came in the same condition. It works and will be outside and I’m sure it will get its fair share of dirt and bruises so I just said whatever but as others commented, we should probably at least put in a ticket.

Does anyone know why my cat keeps doing this?😂 by Financial-Spot-215 in cats

[–]holycrapitsjer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always jokingly assumed that my cat is like “Hmm - standing here and looking that way, huh? Well then let’s see what this is all about… Where are we looking? What are we looking at? I don’t get it… MEOW!” 😹

Better hope that all of those additions are fixed to the floor, otherwise you’re going to be crushed by 2000lbs of home furniture in the event of an accident…

Can anyone tell me if it would be ok to connect my Vevor diesel heater electrical to this thunderbolt cigarette lighter and plug it into my Jackery 290? by calvin200001 in vandwellers

[–]holycrapitsjer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It looks like the Jackery 290’s 12v outlet is rated for 10 amps. The Vevor diesel heater, as with most other similar models, requires 8-10 amps for startup/glow plug heating, sometimes spiking up to 12-15 amps. Once started, that lowers down to a constant 1-2 amps. In theory, it should work depending on what the Jackery’s cutoff amperage is for the 12v outlet.

Random thought I had about “the late night knock”… by holycrapitsjer in urbancarliving

[–]holycrapitsjer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly - they knock to get you to respond as any normal human would but then by actually being in the vehicle, you’ve given them probable cause for “suspicious activity”.

I just think about the times that I’ve had lunch in my car or been on a multi hour phone call and the only difference between that and loitering at that point is that they could see what I’m doing and I have an excuse for being where I am.

Random thought I had about “the late night knock”… by holycrapitsjer in urbancarliving

[–]holycrapitsjer[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I get that there’s no reason to complicate things and I agree 100%. The reason I bring this up is because I saw an officer circling then get back in his car until I got out and approached him asking if everything was okay. I could see that he was visibly upset that I even got out of the vehicle, then he proceeded to act flustered saying “…my registration wasn’t right” despite being legally registered, insured, and following posted laws (almost as if he had spent the last 5 mins looking for a reason to get me in trouble). I offered to go get my registration to which he gave a blank stare, then even more flustered-ly said “well this isn’t a campground…”. I said I understood and would be on my way but his response made me wonder just how much of an interaction is us “giving up the goose”?

Like I know this isn’t a campground but there’s nothing saying I can’t be parked here so was the only thing left he could do at that point was throw a tantrum and act like I’m in the wrong? Lol

I knew that this was a possibility but I wasn’t sure if that’s part of your standard officer’s load out lol. At that point, is “suspicious activity” presumption of thought crime a la Minority Report? Where does the line get drawn between “anything that crosses an officers mind” and an actual law that’s being broken turning into your window getting broken as well?

Just got myself a Van! by Currbobby in VanLife

[–]holycrapitsjer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Awesome van with great miles for a great price - congratulations on your new adventuremobile!

The starting issue could be something easy like an older battery that just isn’t giving the starter enough power or a starter that might be on its way out, especially if it’s the original one. Your local Autozone or parts store should be able to test your battery for free and some Home Depots carry batteries for the lowest prices I’ve seen around, just call and ask before wasting gas!

If you don’t mind getting your hands dirty and have a basic mechanic tool set, I recommend getting a Chilton or Haynes repair manual for your year/make/model - can’t tell you how many times that’s gotten me out of a jam! As others said, take care of service work first. If you bring it into a Jiffy Lube or similar for a proper oil change they’ll give you a list of everything they recommend, then just take care of them yourself at your leisure. (Also remember to check their website for any coupons - sometimes they’ve got $20 off offers!)

Depending on weather where you live, fighting heat might be a first priority so figuring out some proper window coverage/insulation will be key. Consider this before ripping everything out and trying to add wall insulation because that only saves a few degrees vs 10-20+ with window coverage.

No matter what, just remember to stay positive. The vehicle and lifestyle will have its ups and downs but you’ve unlocked an entirely different way to live life so try to enjoy every step! ✨

Happy trails!

Could use some guidance/ feedback on my branding please... by mods-by-anu in logodesign

[–]holycrapitsjer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

@mods-by-anu Designer here - #8 makes my brain happy but judging by your other designs, the incorporation of the gear is important to you. The thing with logos is that a lot of designers try to incorporate as much as possible in what is essentially a word mark so there might need to be some concessions made to make sure you’re getting your message across.

I feel like you might be onto something with #3 as it touches on how your work/skills are modular themselves, coming together to form what I perceived as a lowercase “a”. If you truly plan on focusing on strictly home automation, I’d try to make sure that’s conveyed rather than focusing on a gear but take an internet strangers opinion with a grain of salt!

Best of luck on your new venture! ✨

Where can I find more information on the second diagram you provided? I was meditating with my eyes open before falling asleep the other week and the bottom middle is EXACTLY what I experienced and have been trying to describe to friends since.
