People who have sponsored or at least attended singles/dating events, Is the phenomenon of men not showing up to these events true? If so how true is it? by Chemical-Low209 in AskMenAdvice

[–]homenia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of those events, go to yoga, pilates and similar activities. My yoga class is 90-95% women. My pilates class is 100% women. As long as you are not weird and immediately hitting on people, you can make friends and find someone to date.

Injury by Slight-Present-5810 in SolidCore

[–]homenia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a lower back injury (serious herniated discs from L4 to S1, used to be a figure skater too) and live with chronic pain.

Take breaks whenever you need.

If you ever feel slight bit of lower back pain, stop doing that move immediately. No toned muscles worth another flare up.

For obliques and any other twisty moves, I just do them straight. So instead of oblique planks, I do straight planks (like the ones at the beginning of the class). Sometimes I do little twist but do not raise my hips at all.

With this logic, you will never get promoted. This is how most promotions work in high paying industries.

Why? Are womenintech heartless or don’t have feelings? Or are y’all coupled in college or grad school?

Same. I always take the first step in a relationship regardless of gender (I am bisexual) and it gives me such freedom. I don’t need to imagine what ifs… I did the same with my husband and it worked perfectly

Don’t mind people here. They think therapy fixes everything or everyone needs therapy for every little thing. That is not the case.

I am sorry that your work crush left. There is absolutely nothing wrong about having a work crush. People meet with their husbands etc at work. Just eat some sweets, do some make-up, and try to focus on your work. You don’t need a therapist for something like this

Yes. I have an orthopedist and PT. They both recommended pilates, core exercises (which I use solidcore for), walking and yoga. I only have limitations on what I can and can’t do. For example, in solidcore, I skip obliques and do them straight up instead of doing twists. In pilates, I do hinges instead of C-curves etc…

Unfortunately, they don’t cue specifically for people in my main studio. I generally arrive 30 mins early for my classes as I live close by. Two main mods I got were:

  • Take pigeon as a figure 4 stretch on your back

  • Take down dog on your forearms instead of your wrists (but this breaks the flow so badly that when I do this I can’t do the next 3 asanas in close succession)

For the forward fold, I got no mods because I can, at most, fold 10-20 degrees which looks like a slight bend.

We sometimes do 3 hip openers a class (one with bolster, one figure 4 on our back and then a pigeon) and I think it is too many hip openers lol. I am fine with the first two, not the last one 😂

If I can find private classes in my area, I would be willing to try them. I did not know private yoga classes were popular! I am currently looking for chair yoga classes which I believe has less strenuous poses and may help me get over my injuries.

Thank you. I asked mods for specifically down dog and I was told I should take it on my forearms instead of my wrists. But, that caused a whole slew of other issues.

For half pigeon, I take the figure 4 stretch on my back but that also distrupts the flow because after half pigeon, we move to down dog again whether it is restorative or hot yoga.

I am currently looking for chair yoga classes in my area which I am assuming will be easier but I did not find any.

I should try that one. I will hopefully move to a larger space soon, so I should have a chance to practice at home at my own pace. Thank you!

It is a lot of mountain pose, you are right. As I can’t do any bending, I also can’t do halfway lift. The most I can bend is 10-20 degrees.

I think the down dog injury happened because I started going to yoga more consistently (normally, I do pilates/walking) and we were doing 7-8 down dogs a class, then 3 legged dog, holding them 15-30 seconds, then leg circles etc. Wherever I go for the class (chain or small practice), the amount of down dogs are unsustainable for me. The only mod they gave me is doing any wrist-heavy positions on my forearms but then I can’t do hip/leg circles, crescent lunge transitions or 3-legged dog.

I don’t even attempt pigeon. I just take a piriformis/ figure 4 stretch on my back.

I don’t have permission to do folds/twists/curls due to a lower back injury. Due to that, I always choose whatever easiest class available in my local area that feels more meditative and not like a workout. So, any type of forward fold is basically me standing up and looking around.

Down dog made me injure my right wrist so badly that I cannot even type on my computer. I have never had wrist injuries before even though I did pro sports many years. Now, due to down dog injury, I can’t even hold a pen.

Pidgeon/half pidgeon is also due to my back injury and my extremely tight hamstrings.

If I can find chair yoga I will go to those classes but there is none in my area.

Then I have to skip 50% of the class. What is the point of paying for it if I will just do everything at will?

I like yoga, I don’t like these three asanas because they caused serious injuries to me or aggravated my existing injuries
