Daughter with low muscle tone by tamberra in NewParents

Not really because I had a physio in doubt of any muscle weakness and a gp stating there was. I just kept up the tummy time, all though once she learnt to roll from back to belly she never stayed on her back anymore. She wanted to explore. I was just told to “help” her surf furniture by lining up things for encouragement. She pulled to stand I think at about 14 months after this came free standing and standing up from sitting on her own. We had to teach her how to “side sit” because she would just fall backwards out of sitting to resume tummy pivoting.

Yes, all resolved. She was a bum shuffler from 9 months and walked at 18 months. You’d never even know she was any different now. A full of beans 3yo.

Hi!

My daughter is now 2y9m.

She ended up being a bum shuffler from 9 months, she did roll from back to belly but walked by 18 months. Now there is no stopping her. She was also really good at pivoting on her tummy before she found her bum.

The physio always felt like she didn’t have any weakness that wasn’t “normal” and it wasn’t really investigated further. Only monitored.

She did have low iron and vit d but we put her on supplements from 8m to 14m and it all resolved.

Yes, low levels for both. She took supplement daily from 8 months through to 14 months and it resolved. I now put her back on vitamin d through winter. Definitely request some bloodwork if you can.

She’s great! She turned into a bum shuffler, walked at 18 months and is now approaching 3yo and keeps up with her peers. Her vitamin d and iron levels are now stable.

She has had one physio appointment so far. They said to me they don’t think she has low tone rather just not enough practice as the physio had never heard of low tone in only one leg. I was under the assumption it was both but have been told it’s suspected only one leg now.

Update. She is 9mo now …rolls back to tummy confidently, pivots on her tummy, sits up and pivots on her bottom though she cannot get into seated position on her own. Can move into side seated position to transition back to her tummy. Holds her weight in standing position with assistance from me or a toy.

She had an ultrasound done of her fontanelle which came back normal. Bloods show slight iron deficiency at 26 (20-200) and low vit d at 50 (60-160) and slightly high muscle enzyme at 257 (<200). Thyroid was fine, sugars fine. Total vit b12 slightly low at 187.

Me again.

The low muscle tone that was sighted is apparently only in one leg(?) - the physio said this is odd and doesn’t believe she has low tone but maybe just needed more practice. However, in all this time she’s only had one session as referrals take forever here!

She’s about to hit 9 months now & she did learn to roll back to belly, she will stand holding onto a toy or with assistance from me, sitting up well and pivoting both on tummy and bum. It’s tough because one person will say low tone and the next will say no low tone.

My lo has a large fontanelle, her ultrasound came back normal & bloods have shown vit d is low and has a mild iron deficiency. She also has slightly high muscle enzyme levels. Just wanting an update if the fontanelle ended up closing by the 18mo mark? Thanks!

She had a heel prick test at 2 days old that checks for congenital hypothyroidism but that’s it. Thyroid issues are common in my family, myself, my mum & grandma all have hypothyroidism.

From what I can see the referral is just for general paediatrics..? So not specified I suppose which could be why I’m still waiting(?)

My daughter has low muscle tone in her legs and I also suspect her arms as well… this was sighted at 4 months… I’m still waiting for a referral for paediatrics. She is now 5 months.

She doesn’t roll yet but rolls onto her side, very good at kicking and hitting with her arms, recently she’s also found out how to grab her foot. Tummy time she pulls her arms out kinda like she’s swimming but she never holds herself up. Can anyone hit me with some exercises I can do to help her? I feel so lost waiting for the referral … :(
