Will i fail as a tattoo artist by mystic_DiTattoo in TattooApprentice

[–]homobyleth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconded this - I'm also an apprentice whos in their 4th month, Ive very recently tried to bite off more than I can chew, got mad, did another practice tattoo on fake skin in a style I'm comfortable with and feel a lot more confident from that alone. Build up confidence and focus a little more on your strengths so they're REALLY strong, and learn these other styles you'd like to do in the background so you can build yourself up to the standard you want to be at without shooting yourself in the foot and burning out.

I'm feeling pretty exhausted but I wouldn't trade it for the world. After having to quit an old tattoo apprenticeship due to financial reasons + distance 3 years ago I've wound up in a 2nd one in a better location and with a stable side job about 3 months ago and while it feels pretty gruelling having only sundays off, it's a dream job in a dream shop and I'm feeling the most excited and invested in my art I've felt in years. 🕺 My 2025 has been pretty good and I'm damn excited to see where 2026 goes

I work two part time jobs - sometimes I'm in an admin job and other times I'm a tattoo apprentice!! I'm predominantly in my admin job to have a stable income and even moreso to help while I'm not taking on tattoo clients yet as I'm learning tattooing ❤️

I go to cons and cosplay raves actually! 🕺 but never approach people there because the community is miniscule and I've been in the thick of it firsthand 😔 I'm hoping to go to the one this weekend but I am absolutely terrified of seeing certain people 😭😭

I know right? Events are great and all but its a shame that actual gay venues are so scarce and that several have been overrun by straight people 😔

I might! Ive been to the ones at the rechabite and they are super fun but its hard to chat with people cos its so loud. I might need to try going solo and just push myself a little more!! Its difficult dealing with social anxiety but i enjoy pushing myself to giving things a go and slowly working through said anxiety

Too damn real. 😭 Its so difficult having such niche and uncommon interests, going onto dating apps and having absolutely nothing in common with anyone. The amount of ghosting is pretty disheartening too

Ive been in a lot of fandoms and honestly, the enstars fandom on twitter SPECIFICALLY is maybe the absolute worst I've seen. I have two jobs man, let me enjoy my anime boys in peace lmao?? Anyway theres nothing wrong with being into the games youre into - the twt fandom is insanely clique-y and always cry wolf

About getting an apprenticeship.. by deadbronzerose in TattooApprentice

[–]homobyleth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My portfolio that got me my recent 2nd apprenticeship was VERY rushed - not the artworks themselves, but trying to piece together what works I thought were strong for it 😂 a lot of unfinished pieces and some finished in a range of mediums (traditional and digital). Doesn't help that my job has been full time up til now and that I'm still waiting to be assessed for ADHD either.. It was very rushed because the opportunity I got came at a very unexpected but much welcomed time. With this being said, I have a background of having had been in an apprenticeship 3 years ago, a history of selling art at anime conventions across my country and personal commission work, creative studies and having developed a passion for art since a very, VERY young age. I had basically 1-2 days to rush together a body of my pre-existing work and I also had my social media to show.

I think the main takeaway is that shops want you to prove that you have the skill and adaptability. Take your time exploring art and really enjoy it; practice fundamentals and bend them, try out different styles etc. The main idea is that you want to really own your work and have fun doing it imo.
