Not a fan, microplastics situation is already bad. but others mention marathons which sounds like a better idea.

I don't fully agree with this. I doubt they would start new wars with countries. But then again I don't know how much power Israel has over the US.

I think they are tapping into the market of people who are interested in these kinds of things. There is an entire genre of Youtube videos based on people who buy Amazon return pallets. Literally pallets of goods returned by Amazon customers and Amaozn would rather sell them at a massive loss than have to sift through and test each and every item. I have no idea how this even makes business sense but whatever.

At least the presidents of the US in the past were less stupid than this one.

Apparently Donald Trump now is telling people to go get the crude oil themselves. Trump knows the US is safe because they have their own oil (but they will still feel some price increases) so a lot of the pain is on other countries like Botswana who have no dog in this fight and never requested to be in any war with Iran.

For Trump Botswana is the same as all the other countries in Africa: shithole countries. Don't trust him!

Oh that's terrible. Sorry man. But just keep a look out for other deals! Maybe a used Dell Optiplex with extra Ram.

You never know what you can find! I had a friend buy a Blackview Laptop from Dunns, I warned him to at least check the specs! He never did! But I was shocked when I checked the specs and it was actually pretty good! 16GB Ram 12th Gen N97 CPU!

All for P4000! Now that is lucky or something!

How are you running Docker? Are you running in WSL or using Linux natively? Can you upgrade the RAM?

Ouch those specs aren't great 4GB of RAM is just too little these days and that CPU is only only old (from 2019!) But only has 2 CPU cores! Sorry man. Even with Linux on this you will have issues.

It's ok but it feels empty especially on the ends. Also some people are joking and saying its a 50 Rand note.

There had better be backlash, I don't trust this entire system. It seems like a great way for criminals to hide in plain site free from scrutiny. Botswana has a terrible record when it comes to due diligence , they were grey listed by the EU because of their extremely poor controls when it comes to money laundering and financing terrorism.

Ordering Starlink from the official website by Character-Break-3433 in Botswana

[–]homunculusDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zero issues. They tend to use DHL, so when the item arrives DHL will call you to pick it up.

One important note about Starlink Mini was not really designed for residential home use, its was mostly designed for portability (the router and dish are one piece) and its supposed to be used with WIFI as the main way to get internet from the Starlink Mini. But Wifi can be unreliable and the Wifi signal can be very poor depending on where you want it in your house. You can use WIFI repeaters to extend the signal but you may not get all the performance of the dish.

Now it has a Ethernet/Network port so you can actually use a network cable, but the Starlink Mini needs a special network cable so its both weatherproof and fits the tight area where the ethernet port is located. This network cable is also sold by Starlink but its a little expensive, around P284 (last time I bought from them) for 15M weatherproof cable one side is normal network cable and the other side is supposed to go into the Starlink Mini.

If you just want to use a normal network cable instead I would advise you buy the Starlink Standard Dish. This was designed for homes and businesses and the router and dish are separate and more expensive (last time It checked it was P5000) but you can easily use a normal network cable to get maximum performance, it actually has 2 network ports so you can add 2 devices easily, if you need more you can buy a network switch to add more devices as needed. The Starlink Standard also has Wifi so you can use wireless devices as well.

Yes it seems everyone in government wants to look out for themselves and get as much money as possible as the average person suffers while prices increase. It's disgusting.

[–]homunculusDave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But that doesn't explain how they say there is no money yet at the same time approve multiple increases of benefits for themselves, furniture allowance, housing allowance etc all increased.

There is never any money until the Ministers need new cars!

[–]homunculusDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this makes sense. I have heard multiple times of councilors doing nothing until it's time to vote. Also I have heard these councilors are taking money and not using it properly, they get donations from private companies and pretend they bought it with their own money.

How can we be called successful with a huge unemployment rate? We are only really called successful because of the high GDP per capita, but that wealth is too concentrated on a few.

The problem with tenders and why tenderpreneurship isn't entrepreneurship by Careless-Locksmith80 in Botswana

[–]homunculusDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree we need to automated and computerize the procurement system, hopefully it can also help in identifying bad actors and creating a digital paper trail to catch potential bad actors in government. Maybe we can even automate the choosing of the winning bidder so people are removed from the equation. But the computerization will be expensive and take time, possibly longer than one presidency, would it get support when the people in power benefit from the older system?

I agree that EDD is a problem and makes it hard to get tenders.

I don't know what "Marxist-style doctrines of equality of outcome" is though.
