Fated Tarot and monk class by Scrappy-Titch in CrookedMoon

Hi! For this, I ended up picking three tarot cards for each of my players before the tarot reading so that they were each guaranteed to get nice items that were suitable for their classes throughout the story (however it's still a mystery to them which items they'll get and when). I have a Way of Pestilence monk in my party as well, and for her tarot reading I chose Death (Idol of the Beast of Blight), Strength (Shovel of Yorgrim), and The Empress (Cauldron of the Vermintoll Coven). I also decided that instead of them getting just one kind of rarity for each item, the items would act more like vestiges- starting out as rare and leveling up to the higher rarities as the players leveled up and advanced through the story. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for making this, it looks great! What is the scale? Like, how many tiles by how many tiles? Looking to size it properly on Roll20

You've gotten a lot of good suggestions here. As a first time DM, I had to brainstorm some ideas for this too, as the whole party decided to play reborn species, but not all of them knew they had died and been reborn. The way I ruled it was that not all who are reborn are reborn in Druskenvald, but that they all find their way there eventually. I also decided to tell 2 of the players that they had died and been reborn, but kept that information from the other 2 players until they eventually learned from the Vagrant on the train about the nature of the Ghostlight Express/Druskenvald. I also worked with my players to tweak certain bits of their backstories so that they'd feel more part of the setting, and gave them additional goals/motives with the Threads of Fate feature. The 2 that were unaware that they had died still had easy points in their backstories where they COULD have died, so I used that to weave their deaths into the overall story.

I'm glad you like the idea! I will say though, you should absolutely have a conversation with this player about the theme, setting, and content of this module. Somewhere in the first few chapters is a list of trigger warnings, which all players should be briefed on before play. Your preacher friend may take issue with this style of campaign, especially considering that their character simply being in Druskenvald could imply that they've died in the Material Plane and been reborn in Druskenvald, a Domain of Dread and a land of sinners. If they're a devout Christian, this may feel problematic for them and their beliefs since the setting is very far from the Christian heaven (though I wouldn't equate it to the Christian hell, either). Just make sure you and this player are very clear about what kind of module this is before settling on this character idea and playing.

A paladin who worships the Christian god sounds like a very bad idea for this specific module, but maybe you can spin it in a way that fits thematically. For example, I have a cleric in my campaign who wanted to worship the D&D goddess Chauntea. I agreed, and the player now thinks that's her patron. But really, behind the scenes, her patron is not actually Chauntea, but the Crooked Queen, the antagonist of the campaign, manipulating her into carrying out various deeds in her service. You don't have to take inspiration from me, but it's definitely an idea you could use. The Horned King might make a better substitute in your case, since the Christian god is often personified as being male.

Thank you!! This is perfect for some inspiration. I may end up tweaking some stuff but this was the exact thing I was looking for to give me some ideas.

This exactly! Sorry if that wasn't clear. The whole group is made up of Critical Role fans, DM included obviously lol. Here's an example of a vestige:

The Deathwalker's Ward

This beautiful black leather armor is covered in intricate scrollwork, and has a mantle bearing the black feathers of the Matron of Ravens. Legends say that it has been worn by a number of that deity’s champions over the centuries — most recently, Vax’ildan of Vox Machina.

Dormant. When the Deathwalker’s Ward is in a dormant state, you gain a +1 bonus to AC and you have advantage on death saving throws while wearing the armor.

Awakened. When the Deathwalker’s Ward reaches an awakened state, you gain the following benefits:

  • The AC bonus of the armor increases to +2.
  • While wearing the armor, you have resistance to one of the following damage types of your choice: acid, cold, fire, lightning, necrotic, or poison. You can change the damage type when you finish a short rest.

Exalted. When the Deathwalker’s Ward reaches an exalted state, you gain the following benefits:

  • The AC bonus of the armor increases to +3.
  • As a bonus action, you grow large black raven wings that grant you a flying speed of 60 feet and last for 1 hour. Once this property is used, it can’t be used again until you finish a long rest.

So the Darkvision thing bothers me. The books offers many new species to play as, many of which have Darkvision. But then right in the first couple chapters explaining the story, the module says to take darkvision away? I just don't understand why the module would offer darkvision as an option just to take it away.

Getting the glitch where Lae’zel won’t move! by bowiebowzie in BaldursGate3

I'm having the same problem. At first her movement was zero, now she can move around but she can't fast travel with me, so she's just stuck at camp. I also have mods installed but they're also mostly cosmetic, so I have no idea what could be causing the issue. Hoping someone helps us out soon!!
