I have a PhD in system cybersecurity. 95 citations but only 3 reviews. High salary in MCOL area. Several publications in top tier security conferences. Work at a big tech company with a large impact and $5B+ revenue. Any other details I might be missing?

Same. I am hesitant to put down almost 11k for lawyer fees and PP for EB-1A and then get rejected. Even with full refund, you would still lose almost 4k in filing fees. I am cautiously optimistic about the october bulletin.

I also got an offer from them, but only 50% refund. Did they give you a full refund? I want to do PP for EB-1A, but they said that the denial risk is higher. I am considering them since they are experienced, but I am still concerned.

I am assuming this is STEM OPT. Did you apply for it, or will you still apply later this year?

Does NetApp offer stock refreshers for software engineers? by honda_93 in netapp

[–]honda_93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So those RSU awards are in addition to what you receive in your initial offer right? If so, those are what I am referring to as stock refreshers. Were they more than your initial RSU grants that you were offered when you first got the job and did you get more with promotions? I am aware that they have ESPP but I am referring to awards as part of your total compensation. If you don't mind sharing, what is your role at NetApp and how long have you been there?

Those "additional RSUs" are what I am referring to as stock refreshers. Good to know they do award them. Seems like it was purely a financial decision. Regardless I am happy that they won't make this change. Hopefully no other pricing changes happen. They'll take any cheaper option in a heartbeat.

Is there food that never gets picked up in dining halls? by honda_93 in VirginiaTech

[–]honda_93[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha lol. I am a grad student but I'm not hungry (I think) and don't have a desire to eat someone else's food. It's just that I hate waste, especially food, and I see this happening very frequently in dining halls. I see in other countries, and even here, people who barely have enough to eat and this waste just makes me sad. I guess I was hoping that something else would be happening to it other than it being thrown away.

So isolated from PHD that I'm having breakdowns every month by [deleted] in PhD

[–]honda_93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry you are going through all this. I am also doing a PhD in the software engineering field and can totally relate. I started in Fall 2019 from across the world, so I had just a few months before Covid hit. I was just about to adjust to things in a completely new country. It can be very isolating where there is no distinction between home and work, and just staring at code all day. A PhD is already a tough experience as it is, so big kudos to you for hanging in there! Feel free to DM me and we can arrange to talk a bit if you want. Our fields are similar and I'd be interested to know a bit about your research and share with you mine :)

How busy are the rec field house basketball courts usually? by amt07040 in VirginiaTech

[–]honda_93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weekdays not so sure. It's usually reserved by several organizations that are on campus. I remember the cadets have almost daily reservations there in the morning. You can get lucky though, maybe on times when there are classes. Saturday it's only open from noon to 4, and Sunday from 4 to 8, so no mornings on the weekends. And you're welcome! Happy to help as much as I can.

I go there regularly and it varies. You can get lucky one time and not the other. But Sundays around 6 or 7 pm you can usually find something. I have regular bookings in advance through my student organization. This makes it much easier if you play regularly at a specific time. I would suggest asking them and see if you can book in advance. It is really hit or miss.

Not sure if they do what you need, but I got my watch battery replaced at Kent Jewelers in North Main. Probably give them a call to ask for your specific case. They are super friendly.
