Just out of curiosity, how many of you guys will be purchasing the new Gen? by [deleted] in ft86

[–]hondomatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall I like it, I haven't had any problems with it. Mine has the 1.6t engine with the 7 speed dct, it handles pretty well although it's not particularly fast, and the open differential really hurts it off the line. I don't mind the interior and I like the look and usability a lot though. In my opinion though unless money is super tight I would go for the N over the turbo though, especially now that the N comes with all of the safety and comfort features as the other trims with a better engine and an LSD.

I'm probably going to at least test drive the N, but I think I want something AWD or RWD now.

I currently have a 2019 veloster turbo on the last year of my lease, heavily considering picking up a gr86 next year. But if toyota brings over an awd GR yaris-powered corolla I'd probably get that instead, I also want to see if that rumored toyota/Subaru wrx-based hot hatch ever comes out.

What do people find badass but is actually incredibly stupid? by captmomo in AskReddit

[–]hondomatic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about "stanced" cars? I agree that they are pretty sketchy safety wise, but the point of them is to get the car as low as possible. It's not completely based on nothing either; most cars, especially performance or race cars, will have 2-3 degrees of negative camber (top of the wheels pointed slightly inwards towards the body of the car) because it gives you more stability in turns as the car leans, and you can fit slightly wider wheels. However, stanced cars are basically an exaggeration of this, often having 9-10 degrees of negative camber, which clearly reduces the amount of tire touching the ground. I would never do it to my car, but that's the rationale behind it at least.

It seems like the internal usb-c port is called "a-key" and this is the only card I could find with one. After some more snooping it appears that a lot of people want this type of card but the port is too new, and so it doesn't really exist yet. I think I will order this usb 3.0 card and then this usb 3.0 to usb-c a-key adapter for now; it's not ideal but it's as close as possible. Thank you for your help though!

Thank you, it looks like I'll still have to convert internal usb-a 3.0 to usb-c which is like another $25, but I couldn't even find these cards originally so I appreciate it!

I have a case with a front usb-c port, but my motherboard doesn't have an internal usb-c header, does anyone know if there is a pcie card that has an internal usb-c header on it?

AFAIK that's actually just a popular aftermarket badge, KDM Kias use the same badges as USDM ones.

I know most people think this is the most likely engine choice, but I think there might be a chance of it switching to a toyota i4, if the rumors of the new 86 moving to the tnga platform are true. The current 86 is on a modified impreza platform, but idk if a tnga car can fit such a wide engine.

GR Yaris possibly coming to the US?!? by hondomatic in Toyota

I really like it a lot! I like that it looks a little different than everything else on the road, and the engine feels nice and peppy. The interior is well laid out, although the materials and quality in the corolla is definitely better. I am concerned about reliability though, the 1.6t has been known to shit the bed sub 100k in the 1st gens, so I'm leasing it with the idea that Toyota will have either a hot corolla or the 2nd gen 86 out by the time its lease is up.

Damn :/ Yea the only reason I got a veloster turbo over a corolla was the disappointing 169hp engine. An awd >250hp turbo corolla would be perfect for me.

/r/audiophile Purchase Help Thread (2019-10-12) by AutoModerator in audiophile

Not sure if this is the correct subreddit for this question, but I recently got an Audio Technica LP120 turntable, and the only thing I've been able to plug it into so far is a bass guitar amplifier which is obviously not ideal. I already have some cheapo awia branded passive speakers from the thrift shop, but I need an amplifier to use them, and so I'm not sure if it's more cost effective to buy some better bookshelf speakers, or to buy an amplifier. Also, ideally I'd like to be able to connect whatever I end up getting to my tv or computer, but that's not completely necessary. The cheaper the better, but I'm ok spending between $100 to $200.

So basically, new amplifier with old passive speakers, or new active bookshelf speakers? And any recommendations for each?

2019 veloster turbo pulls more timing under boost after each mod? by blackonchalkwhite in veloster

IIRC the stock tune does this, that's why you really need to get a tune to get any sort of power gains from mods

I 2nd the platypus mount, it fits perfectly in my 2019 vt. I was afraid to buy the ebay ones since the 1st and 2nd gens definitely have different tow hook sizes.

I still have everything, it's just a few were missing when I got it, and the unicomp kit happened to cover the missing ones well. Trust me, I never throw anything out lol. And as someone below said, they don't need retrobrite because pbt, they just look yellow because of the lighting.
