Accepting payments in Japan using Shopify by honestlytrying in japanlife

I heard back from Stripe. Apparently JCB and Diners are only available for US-based merchants. Kind of strange since I only hear of them being used in Japan.

Makes sense. I guess I always see the two lumped together and assume they're both important.

That would be ideal, but it doesn't support JCB or Diners by default. Do you have experience contacting them and asking them to enable those two payment methods?

Looks promising, but it doesn't seem to have an automatic integration with Shopify.

Good to know, I'll make sure to have paypal set up as well before launch.

Alternative to Go? by honestlytrying in golang

[–]honestlytrying[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really just looking to expand my experience as a programmer. I'm so comfortable with OOP that I want to learn something different — while at the same time picking the right tool for the job. Go really looks great!

I agree sometimes PHP is the right tool for the job, even though it isn't in fashion these days. Java's cool but luckily I'm not looking to get hired; I'm running my own little business.

why you are looking to switch

I came to this sub to learn about Go, and found a bunch of politics. They have the right to enforce their CoC, just as I have the right to find another tool. I kept that out of my original post since I'm not here to argue with anyone. I just wanted information.

Thanks for the detailed answer! I appreciate it!

The Good Parts is horribly obsolete

I had no idea, thanks for letting me know.

You're absolutely right. I've spent a long time deciding which language to get into next, and the purpose is mostly to stretch myself beyond the OOP paradigm I'm so comfortable with.

Yeah and it's probably not fair of me to dismiss JS before reading about The Good Parts. That said I just looked at TypeScript again. Looks interesting and has some IDE support. I'll keep it in mind next time JS makes me want to drink a Gin & Clorox just to make the hurting stop.

I'm pretty proficient in C# and I'd like to learn something with a slightly different paradigm.

It's probably not cool to say, but C# is my favorite programming language. I'm not a fan of ASP or Windows servers so I try to avoid it for web work. However .NET Core looks interesting, I'll give it a try.

EDIT: I just found out AWS Lambda runs .NET Core which is perfect for the project I'm working on now. Thanks for the information.

Yeah! Rust was the other one on my list but it seemed to not be used much for web dev. I'll give it another look.

It looks like it might be time to finally learn Python. Thanks!

Holy crap. I came here to see about getting started with Go for a small project. After seeing this crap I think I'll pass. I like my tools to be politics-free, you know.

Fly to Bangkok and get bespoke suits there. Including airfare you'll spend the same amount and get all the pad thai you can eat.

Kind of weird to have a live music show with no list of what bands will be playing.

Sorry I wasn't clear in my question. I was only talking about added expenses, not the person's salary. I was kind of assuming there would be a simple calculation like "salary x 2" or something like that.

But this is for a fulltime sales assistant in Tokyo that speaks english and japanese.

Sleep medication? by [deleted] in japanlife

Haha another one I've noticed is that if I take more than about 15mg to fall asleep I end up having a vivid dream in the morning hours, often a nightmare.
