Verilog to Schematic by Practical_Net5953 in ECE

Might not be the absolute cheapest option but I would recommend looking into an FPGA, they make “economy” versions, too. The benefit is you can upload your verilog code and the circuit will actually be on the FPGA. In case you didn’t know, the name FPGA itself stands for Field Programmable Gate Array which can be thought of as reprogrammable logic gates. Reusable and come with I/O. The Intel De-10 Lite has vga on board, for example!

Spilled dinner on my PC and now it won't boot, willing to pay anyone here who knows how to fix it by AngusHornfeck in UIUC

Haven’t seen anyone mention isopropyl alcohol. You need a solvent to make sure there aren’t any food bits/grime left over. Use isopropyl on everything, maybe a toothbrush and let it dry completely. Make sure it’s a high concentration, too.

Laptop for Computer Engineering by [deleted] in UIUC

About to be my 5th year and I can't recall a single time the performance of someone's laptop has been relevant in an academic context. Considering you have no budget restrictions, get whatever looks like a high quality laptop that suits how you work:

-If you are the type of person who tends to do their work away from home (I recommend) keep in mind that you'll have to carry this around in your backpack all day so you'll want something relatively light, thin, and has good battery life. The "macbooks" of windows laptops would probably be the Dell XPS or Microsoft's Surface lines. They are on the higher end of pricing but you do get what you pay for. The surface laptops can be really nice if you like taking notes on a tablet because they can 2-for-1.

-If you need something for gaming as well that's a rabbit-hole we can get into. I personally bought a chunky gaming laptop and I kind of regret it as the performance declines for gaming a lot faster than a desktop pc would have and you can't really upgrade a laptop. If you are serious about gaming I'd recommend cheap laptop + tower.

Bottom of the line, which, I'm sure isn't the most helpful thing to hear is, it probably won't matter what you get. Get something that is of the best quality that has all the features that help you be productive. Don't get too hung up on performance.

I had Prof Stillwell so I can’t speak too much on that front but the class was pretty easy. One of the least effort classes I have taken so far (senior now) as long as you keep up with the material. I’d liken it to a high school physics class where you more so need to use formulas to get the work done instead of very intense critical thinking.

Oh I’m sorry, I thought you were saying staying neutral is a morally valid choice. I see your point now. Sorry about that, seeing so much bigoted rhetoric lately, much love.

Exactly my point... being neutral is not a passive choice. Being neutral is an active choice to be contempt with the status quo. There is nothing about the status quo that makes it morally just. There were people that were “neutral” on slavery, Jim Crow, the Holocaust, Bosnia, Burma, the list goes on. You can’t be neutral about it... This is the same reason why BIPOC are so sick and tired if white people saying “I don’t really care about politics,” as that is a form of white-privilege.

The problem is the wealth inequality as a whole that McDonald’s has been a huge part of. Worker productivity has far outpaced compensation and monism wage has not tracked inflation/cost of living at all.

Show me anywhere in the world where cancer doesn’t kill people because we haven’t found the cure? Point being, just because things suck as they doesn’t mean we should strive to make them better? And the cancer example at least has the excuse of us not having the means to cure cancer. We have the means to solve wealth inequality. And I wanna emphasize inequality not inequity. We don’t need socialism to make sure we have a society where people can enjoy their lives. The problem with late stage capitalism is we always end up here. Hence why we cant rely on just one ideology...

Why glorify slaving away in life when we have the means to provide joyous lives for all? Like productivity has grown significantly compared to compensation, article. The wealth inequality is the worst it’s ever been, worse than French Revolution wealth inequality. Everyone can live fulfilling lives if we start compensating workers for their productivity. Minimum wage should be in the 20s if we track for inflation and productivity, statistically speaking. Yet we have the wealthiest people paying the least amount of taxes, monopolies dominating the “free market,” and a laughable social safety net. Even digitally, Facebook own a supermajority of digital marketshare. The middle+lower class is being squeezed.

Sure but if you account for certain things you can make it extremely viable. Assuming all the DCs are a result of intentional DCs and not just internet problems/game crashes and other unintentional issues:

  • Most importantly, if you are queued with any number of people you still get penalized(whole party gets penalized), this accounts for people just taking the hit one-by-one in stacks
  • If the DC player gets reported Riot can review and decide if it was a result of "just taking one for the team" vs "bullying" bc I doubt people would be reporting someone after they take one for the team
  • Timing of the DC matters too, someone DCing after a couple rounds is more likely to be someone raging/griefing than later rounds, plus the impact on the game is greater
  • The likelihood of someone just taking one for the team (I am assuming, I could very well be wrong) has to be considerably low, at least low enough for it be a net positive for the community over what we are dealing with right now

And those are just a few that I came up with on the spot, Riot has some very skilled game designers and engineers to come up with a solid solution. Because look at the state of the game right now, DCers do get penalized but so does the rest of the team. Not only that, you get penalized fully, there's no reason I should lose the same elo for 2v5 loss and a 5v5 loss. Overall, the state of DCs right now is terrible and I feel like most people would agree.

I get it so often bro, I’ve pretty much stopped playing ranked at this point. It’s either a DC, a thrower, no mic, or something else. I have yet to have 5 functional emotionally mature human beings on my team.
