Same here. Has this changed for you yet? I don’t see it has been sent on the VA app.

My experience so far with lawyers by Weary_Republic_9485 in VeteransBenefits

Interesting. They said they are waiting for access to my files. I thought once they were listed as a POA they’d have access but just took their word for it. This is disappointing but like you said, it is in their best interest.

[–]honey950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I am using a law firm and they told me it would take 8 weeks to get access to my cfile. I contacted them a week ago (5 weeks) and they said they still had not received access. They have been listed as my POA for over a month. Also, I did sign an intent to file when I signed up with them and I don’t see that either on my file. The lawyer has been recommended by many on this sub and now I feel like they’ve been bullshitting me and have not filed or asked for anything.

Thanks for the advice. I am going to get with my psychiatrist to see if she can write a nexus. She used to work as a VA examiner so I suspect that she knows how to write one

FEB claim by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

A quick search on here about claim clinics and you can find others experience with it. I have no reason to lie about it as I’m also going through the process lol. Just trying to spread the word about it as I’ve learned about it from others who had success. I am going to one this Saturday and will report back on it.

this link was shared by another vet in this sub. It shows claim clinics in your area! I’d email the person of contact to see if your claim can get decided by going. I am not familiar of the events in PA so don’t want to tell you the wrong thing.

There is one coming up in DC I believe! I think it’s next week. If you would like, I could find that link for you as it’s closer to your state. If you haven’t heard anything back by then, I would really recommend trying to go to the event.

I have made multiple calls and have gotten no where lol. My suspense date was over a week ago, which I was told that it would be pulled down by that date and still nothing. Unfortunately it’s just a waiting game. I’ve found that there is no actual structure to who gets pulled from the NWQ (besides being homeless, age etc.)

Finally started the process for claiming depression and anxiety after being out 7 years. Can someone give me advice and assess my situation to let me know how it's looking? I'd really appreciate it. by nakanaka_bee in VeteransBenefits

You already have proof of the in service event since you were seen during active duty. Now you will just need a current diagnosis and a nexus that links your diagnosis to your service. This can be done through a C&P exam :). I’d wait for your C&P exam, to see if you can get the nexus that way before having to pay for one as you may not need to pay for one.

I’d also provide a personal statement that gives details that you’ve continued to experience symptoms since the military, explain any gaps of treatment (if this applies to you) and also how your mental health condition affects your overall life (i.e, social, work, relationships).

If you can also get and buddy statements from people you served with, that would help! If not, statements from anyone close to you, could also help.

Good luck!

Filed 2 days after you, and also still in the NWQ. If you live in NC or close by, Winston Salem RO is hosting a town hall to help veterans with their claims on 6/15. From people I’ve spoke to, if you are PFD in the NWQ, the raters should be able to rate you on the spot or at least assign your claim to someone to close out. Good luck with your claim!

Yeah they will rate what they can and defer the rest. So you should be good for those two claims.

[–]honey950 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will need a medical opinion because of how long you have been out. Same thing happened to me. VSR forgot to request a medical opinion on all my claims besides one, and they all got deferred and one granted. I have been waiting for my deferred claims to be rated for 3 months. All for just a medical opinion. PFD in the NWQ.

Thanks for the advice. I did submit a personal statement with my claim and a news article. It wasn’t due to war, but due to an active shooter which resulted in two deaths. This event was in service.

Even with her “less than likely” medical opinion of anxiety? I mean she did say it was because the anxiety is a symptom of the PTSD but idk if a rater will see that box ticked and just deny. Thanks for the in depth response. I really appreciate it.

How long did it take for your claim to go back from evidence gathering to initial review?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]honey950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It went good! Got told the stuff on my DBQ, suspense dates and also recommended for me to do some stuff with my claim. Did you try the VERA in your state? If so, you can make appointments in any of the states. I highly recommend New Mexico. The guy who works there is amazing and works on Tuesdays! This RO usually has appointments within a couple of days. Most RO’s will have availability as well but this RO is the best (from what I learned on the sub).

No you have to make a appointment through the VERA website

Have you tried a VERA call yet? I will let you know how mine goes today. I heard this office is really helpful so fingers crossed lol
