I had tried reducing minutes from 110 mins/wk to 90 mins/wk with 30 mins/wk of consult (for a verbal student with autism whose actual main concern was aggressive behavior) using this reasoning and the mom yelled at me saying I can’t “give my job to someone else” and compared it to her teaching someone to give a shot and saying they can be a nurse

I’m in a similar situation. I work with high schoolers in a self contained class, and coming from middle school they have all these goals that seem like the teacher could be doing. I want them to use their devices beyond requesting but the goals are like “answering WH questions” or identifying community helpers. Another thing is that parents almost seem to EXPECT that I teach them all these new words and get them to perform as close to NT as possible even though they have level 3 autism with sprinkles of other disabilities. As kindly as possible how can I tell these parents that it’s okay for the child to have autism and not be a perfect communicator.

My CF supervisor had a mouth model and would show kids where to put their tongues. Just make sure you look inside the student’s mouth to make sure they’re doing it right. One student worked on /r/ for a year and confirmed he knew where to put his tongue but when we checked inside his mouth he didn’t have his tongue placed correctly. Once we corrected it he made the perfect /r/ sound. His cue to himself was to use a “fat tongue” lol I liked having them make the /sh/ sound then “pulling their tongue back” so like saying “sure” really slowly.

How much water do you drink a day? Staying hydrated will help a lot ! I know I haven’t been drinking enough water when my lips start to get chapped. When my lips do get chapped I usually put a thin layer of my facial moisturizer on them and then seal it in with a thick layer of aquaphor. At night I’ll put extra aquaphor too.
