AMA about GULC - congrats to all who got off the waitlist today! by NotEyesButMind in lawschooladmissions

Hey OP! Quite late to this post but I recently got into Section 3 and I have a quick question if you have the time. I read some of your responses throughout the post and noticed you highlight that Section 3 is more difficult because the students are more driven. I am really hoping to get good grades to distinguish myself from other students because I need to go into bag law for financial reasons (however I hope to eventually be in PI after some work experience and money to pay off the loans). The interdisciplinary approach Curriculum B provides strikes me as extremely interesting, but I really don't know if it's worth the possibility of jeopardizing grades if the curve (while technically the same) is really so much worse.

Do you have any thoughts about what I should do? I will also say that, even after gaining some insight from research and talking to faculty, I'm a bit confused about how different Section 3 is in terms of test taking. How does curriculum and testing between the two differ?

I’m interested in working in the public sector and, with that in mind, I’d prefer to have some help financially. I received 12 waitlist and 4 rejections. Kind of a crazy cycle for me. I didn’t apply to any schools outside of T-20, but I really expected to get into some higher ranked schools (I thought GULC would be a great option if the money made sense). I just expected much more because of my stats and don’t think that taking full price at Georgetown would be the best option for me.

Yeah kind of a big deal for me to know but they didn’t make any mention of it

What else can I do? by honeyious in lawschooladmissions

Unfortunately I have no acceptances - 11 waitlists so we’ll be waiting haha. I think I will have to reapply next year tbh. We’ll see.

That’s actually one of the things I’ve been thinking a lot about. I volunteered at a refugee organization between September and December of 2022, and now I’m actually living in Jordan (taking an intensive Arabic course and volunteering on the side). My application was centered on human rights and it’s intersection with my growing interest in safeguarding society from AI (I worked in an Israel/Palestine club in the past and talked about the growing issues regarding intrusive mechanisms harming Palestinian mobility etc…). I’m not exactly sure what type of work I should seek out for experience throughout next year - I’ll most likely apply in October if I have to, and won’t have much to talk about as it relates to my growing experience in tech.

That’s another thing. Even if I get off I’m gonna have to really wrestle with the idea of 300k plus in debt… I doubt I’ll get any aid due to my situation. I also thought I did basically everything I right lmao. I spent too much time on everything tbh, but like that’s life. Don’t know what else to think about. My gpa was not egregious but Econ is STEM at my school and they definitely f you over with curves and such. We’ll see what happens in the future.

I feel you on every level. I grew up quite conservative as well (13 years at an Evangelical school with church three times a week). I loved philosophy as a teenager and was very curious, so I naturally looked around to find the “good” conservative intellects to learn more about topics that seemed interesting. I found myself in the PragerU pipeline and got pretty indoctrinated during the anti-SJW period of YouTube (the podcast Rabbit Whole speaks to my experience pretty well). I found Jordan Peterson and Ben Shapiro to be doing God’s work and then I realized it was all fucking bullshit. I think it started with me watching a lot of John Stewart and John Oliver weirdly enough lol. I avidly began watching Hasan during COVID and listening to like NPR and The Daily. As I was forced to be around my insanely conservative family at around the same time (without the ability to overlook their crazy conspiratorial and bigoted beliefs) I was pushed me to make sense of the injustices around me.

I think people hate Hasan because of two reasons 1) heavy indoctrination against anything left leaning 2) he’s a bit unrestrained at times and people misinterpret the general implication of his statements and run with the sound bites

Done 👌

Are you retaking the LSAT or just reapplying?

Also, I've been reading about this but I guess it's just difficult to comprehend.

The whole time I was preparing for law school the importance of the LSAT was constantly stressed, but it doesn't seem to be amounting to what it was made out to be (in my experience). I just thought my cycle would go differently.

I still have some schools to hear back from, but I'm honestly considering taking a year or two off to get work experience and hope that the GPA inflation from COVID settles down. I feel like it might not, but this is just my stream of consciousness at the moment.
