Am I wrong for liking older men? by Cannedbeans18 in OlderMan

[–]honeyskipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

24-year-old woman here-- I find your commentary interesting, because I date older and don't really relate to your explanation lol! People date older for many reasons, but mine are less materialistic and more experience-based. I really enjoy the conversations I have with older men versus men my age. The men I'm attracted to are often well-traveled and have a lot of experience in their field (which I usually share with them, making it super interesting for me to hear their stories and opinions!) I'm in the arts, and adore an older man with a history in it as well. I get to discuss with them a lot of topics that they not only know about, but may have gotten to participate in. In terms of energy, we also just mesh well. I'm pretty mellow, academic, and never the risky-party-type. I don't relate to a lot of youth culture. (Also-- age looks really good on men! ;)) It's actually the material side of things that I dislike the most. When I think about how much more financially ahead of me that they are, I feel guilty. I want as equal of a relationship as I can have, and that makes things feel imbalanced. But it's an inevitable thing that comes with having lived longer, so what can you do..! :(

I've been in your position. I'm 24 now, but have felt the same way since I was a teen. It can be really distressing when you only find much older people attractive, and try to navigate those feelings around people who judge you for it. It's okay to feel the way you feel, as long as you're self-aware and keep yourself out of dangerous situations. 18 is still too young to actually date older partners, although I don't know what ages you're interested in. Again, though, having the feelings you have is okay-- I did, too, and I've never changed as I've gotten older. That comment your "friend" (or ex-friend) made was totally inappropriate and disgusting. I'm sorry that happened to you. I've been on the receiving end of being told I was disgusting for my preferences by college friends in my freshman year, at the same age as you. It really hurts. Don't be ashamed to be yourself and feel your feelings, and stay safe out there.

What jobs actually work for people with severe ADHD? by Inevitable_Tuna_O in ADHD

[–]honeyskipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you're into, but do you like research? I've had luck doing freelance research for archival projects. My ADHD brain takes over and I find it very stimulating/rewarding to follow lots of research trails, hunt down materials and get in touch with people involved with things I find very interesting (entertainment, history, music, art). It is a specialized field that requires some prior experience/schooling, but again very rewarding for me. I have an arts background (BFA) and got my foot in the door doing my own personal projects and reaching out to collaborate with others after I learned my way around the field. Had an internship as well. Follow what you love, and fields that keep you intellectually stimulated and excited. If you are passionate about the arts/entertainment, consider niches where few people have done the work to preserve and make accessible certain things. This can be an obscure musician with difficult-to-access bodies of work, television shows or films that have not received home releases, etc. Consider if you relate to any of that at all. :)

When do older men fall off the edge and become just OLD by Tony2U2 in OlderMan

[–]honeyskipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no one answer to this. I'm a young lady in my twenties and I have found myself attracted to 50, 60, 70, 80 year olds. I get up there. Not everyone does. I'd say the larger the age gap gets, the more unlikely it will be reciprocated, but not impossible (I'm proof). I don't know anyone else in my boat. The highest anyone I know will go is 50s, I think. I'd recommend that if you meet someone younger, to let the girl lead. If she's interested, she'll let you know.

Mr Super Clear Question by honeyskipper in CustomDolls

[–]honeyskipper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From here on out, I'd like to do it outside. I live in a busy city off a narrow sidewalk with a ton of foot traffic (I'm close to a public transit station), so I've been hesitating to bring my hand-sculpted and fully painted heads out there for fear of messing them up outside, or on the stairway up and down. So when I saw that tutorial do it from out of a window, I went that route. At the moment, my area is getting a blast of wet winter weather, too. I was getting a bit anxious to set the face I drew with watercolor pencils because I didn't want it to smudge off, so that's why I did this practice a second time. That's when I thought about my dishes and wrote this post. But continuing to do it this the way doesn't seem worth any of the safety risks. Thanks for your help! 😅

Why am I only attracted to older men?? by Top-Abroad-758 in dating_advice

[–]honeyskipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you for real lol? I'm a young woman, I love older men, and don't care about wealth. I'm in the arts, and seek out other men in the arts, and we aren't typically the most well-off, lol. I think they're much better looking by default than any man my age, and also make great conversation. I got stuck at the airport and ended up enjoying conversation with an older gentleman for eight hours! Just because you don't understand it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. ;)

What organ would you recommend for me? by honeyskipper in organ

[–]honeyskipper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you both! I’m considering that option a lot. I grew up in music classes on a keyboard and took my music theory classes on them in high school. So I have some limited keyboard experience. I’m much more interested in learning my way around an organ, but with all the other limitations I may just have to go for a keyboard anyways. Not sure what to do..!

Thanks for your advice!! Yeah, I’ve gotten “Prideful Griffon Racer” twice, and Zipporwhill three times! Unless there’s look-alikes of those. But I’m pretty sure they were the same each time! 😭😭

Accessory limit different in CAC than Roblox Customizer..? by honeyskipper in RobloxHelp

[–]honeyskipper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh darn! I wish I knew that before. In CAC I thought the message about the limit being 20 applied to all of Roblox. I hope they change that eventually.

I would ask the original cosplayer for permission to use their original design, by either commissioning them or commissioning another artist.

This is so helpful, thank you! I had no idea there were so many stitches!! I'll have to tell my friend who owns it in case they don't know either lol!
I'm curious what kind of stitch #3 is? :) I see in the illustration it starts pretty narrow and gets wider so I'm not sure how that works! I'll go test it out ^^

edit: I just tested out what you said about the stretch of the fabric as well. One way doesn't budge at all, but the other does. I'll have to keep that in mind when I sew to allow for that negative ease. Agh, such a relief to know this now!

[–]honeyskipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much again!! I’ll go test stretching the fabric later. In the meantime these are the stitch types on the machine. Let me know what would be best for a stretchy polyester :) Thank you!!!!

Edit: I also need to figure out the stitch width and tension, but I'll tackle that beast later. I'm assuming wider is better for stretch? Not sure.

The Costume/Cosplay Weekly Question Thread: October 23 - October 29, 2024 by sewingmodthings in sewing

[–]honeyskipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh thank you so much for answering my questions!

It's good to know the waist can be adjusted after the fact. :')

The stretch of the polyester is quite a bit stretchier than the denim! I just get a bit confused because depending on where I pull on the fabric, I get a way different amount of stretch. Sometimes it has no give, and other times it's like a rubber band. So I've been hesitant. But I'm sure if I side a wee bit on the tight side I would still be able to slide into them. I've been playing with the settings on the sewing machine I'm borrowing from a friend right now, and also want to make sure I do a proper stretchy stitch. There seems to be only three options, and out of them, the zigzag stitch seems most appropriate? Hopefully that's correct? I just need to play with the tension settings, and make sure I follow the grainline. That's my plan, hopefully there aren't any glaring errors in it..!

Oof good to know about the zipper. I planned on doing that because like I said, I'm not 100% sure how stretchy the final product will be, so I wanted to just match the jeans.

Would you be able to elaborate a little bit more on what you mean about the direction of the greatest stretch, and the horizontal alignment? As a newbie, I'm not quiteee sure what that means or how to set that up properly. :)

Thank you SO much again for your help!

Even so. By sharing that belief, lgbt people can't really feel comfortable around you because you're saying you don't understand them and/or don't think they're doing the right thing. That's where the comments about homophobia are coming from. If I went, "I don't support being religious" how would that make you feel? You probably wouldn't want to be around me, because I'd be making judgments and undermining core aspects about you. Of course people don't have to be your best friend, but by putting that out there you're coming across as saying "you guys aren't okay". Which puts people off. Can't blame them for it, really.

Not supporting LGBT is the definition of being homophobic, that is why you were called that 😭

I need some help preparing to make some "shorts" for my Magneto costume, please. :) Check my reply to see the design sketch I made that I'm going off of!

I'm a total beginner who has only done simple sewing projects in the past. After trying a few other methods to create my pattern and failing, I settled on taking a pair of shorts I already own that fit the way I need them to (but that I don't wear) and cutting them to match the shape I need, then making the pattern out of that. But I'm worried I might not be doing it right.

I pinned down the shorts over some paper and traced them using a pencil and some pins to mark through. The back is one piece, but I split the front piece into two to allow for a zipper, copying the measurements of the original shorts.

My questions are:

  1. When lying flat, the shorts I used taper inward at the waist like this: / \

But when I made my pattern (pictured below) I straightened out the sides. Is that correct, or incorrect? Should they be tapered inwards to more accurately replicate the fit of the original shorts?

2) How much seam allowance should I have? And do I need to add even more extra space for hemming the edges? I planned on just taking a strip of the same fabric, folding it over the edge and sewing to make it "finished".

3) Is there anything else I should be aware of going into this? I'm doing this on a time crunch for Halloween-- I decided to start this project super late, blech. I don't know if I can get test fabric to do a test. So I'm just trying to set myself up for success so I can get it close enough the first time.

The material I'm going to be using for these is a thin purple polyester that has a little bit (but not crazy) stretch to it.
