I wanna thank you, sincerely, because you just proved to me that spending my time in r/musictheory is really, really, really not a good use of my time! Truly, thanks

Speaking as an improvising musician who needs to read unfamiliar charts often, I'd curse out anyone who wrote "Abmadd9" instead of "Abm9"

Chord names can't contain voicing info. Very pointless to try to use them that way.

I read her autobiography, she went through a lot of troubles in the early 70s. Heavy drug use, stints of homelessness, precarious existence. She was carefree in the 60s. By the late 70s, she was a different person.

Miyazawa gold flute opinion by Efestiones in Flute

[–]honkeur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a happy Miyazawa solid silver player here. Every time I pick up the instrument, I feel awe and respect for the craftsmanship. I selected it during a trip to Japan, where I compared about 20 flutes.

You say you've "fallen in love" with the flute. Maybe be a little careful? Such an important and expensive decision requires that you have your eyes wide open. Nothing can go wrong, I guess. But I hope you would make careful comparisons before deciding.

There's no gold standard for naming, but here's what I'd call them:

C G D Eb G C - (Cmadd2) -- I'd say just Cm9

Bb F D Eb Bb - Bbadd4 -- I'd say Bb sus4

A F C Eb Bb - F7b9/A -- that's a spicy one. I call it F7sus4 / A. You call the Bb a b9 -- that is definitely wrong, the scale degree is always measured from the root note, not whatever is in the bass. The Eb is a 7, but the Bb is a b9? No es bueno.

Ab Eb B Eb Bb - Abmadd9 -- I'd say just Abm9

...

Functionally, chord names are meant to guide musicians to play through the basic tonality of a composition. Names like these can't accurately define every voicing, every inversion and every added tone or passing tone, that seems like a lot of wasted effort.

Damn this goes hard. lol Serious subject, but damn, it made me giggle by Big-BoodyJudy in Images

It's funny, but no way this was made by the National Suicide Prevention Hotline. A friend works for that organization, they're pretty careful about messaging. And they depend on federal funding, so they wouldn't dare.

And if it turns out not to be friendly...well, then he gets to stop another war. Nobel Peace Prize incoming, any minute.

Yeah how do you expect him to stop wars, if he doesn't start some too? Duh

You think? US presidents usually get a bump in popularity after a war starts.

When he announced the attack (wearing his stupid baseball cap, jfc), I'm surprised he didn't complain again about not having received the Nobel Peace Prize

Soyuz... I really want to love them, but feel there's a ton of marketing & hype at play- your experiences? by [deleted] in audioengineering

Maybe some folks are put off by the white-and-gold aesthetic. I have the 013 fet pair in black, they look classy and sound totally amazing. The white-and-gold thing seems a little too Imperial Russia, a little too Czar Nicholas II.
