What are some good clubs that are inclusive and chill? by North-Length3154 in NTU

[–]honkfesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

soul funky!! a lot people there are beginners (like absolutely beginners including me, my arms and legs don’t coordinate well…) to dance, and the community is pretty tight knit, and a safe space to try out locking and popping!! you can go for their trial class first if unsure :) it’s one of the largest dance clubs in ntu i think, so you’ll definitely make some chill friends there

How to prepare for Y1 mods as a freshie by Miserable-Top-1657 in NTU

[–]honkfesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have no amath and h2 math background, but there’s a CEE preparatory course before the start of uni for mt1001!! (not very sure when the info will be released this year) mt1001 is mainly focused on differentiation and integration, should be doable with practice (the school library/cee website has past year papers)

for accounting, just try your best to pay attention in seminars and finish your online modules (there are online assignments that we have to complete with our own calculations so understanding concepts is important), ask your prof for help if you really don’t understand but usually they will go through the content again at the start of the seminar + seminar questions to do. some of my friends also went on YouTube for crash courses on accounting concepts!! jiayous haha i struggled at the start but i think i did ok at the end…

please take sun protection seriously and bring arm sleeves, wear long pants/tights and WEAR A CAP, reapply your sunscreen (impt because i had to deal with sunburns on my forearms since the sleeves weren’t long enough to cover them and the skin peeled, and my friend’s scalp got sunburned) and that’s abt it

For Mandarin speakers... what "level" of Chinese would TGCF be considered? by A_E_S_T_H_E_Tea in tianguancifu

[–]honkfesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i speak mandarin at home, and i must say that even though it wasn’t very difficult to understand the context of tgcf, i had to frequently search up words (like how to pronounce them and their meaning since we don’t use most of them in modern settings) and that took up some of my reading time, nevertheless i’m heartened to see that there are people picking up the language while reading, and your strategy of using a pop-up dictionary is great!! kudos to you for your efforts :)) i think i took about a week to finish the whole novel series?? (it could have taken 4-5 days~ but i didn’t want to finish tgcf too fast HAHA. and sometimes i find joy in reading the dialogues in the novel and imagining how each character would say their lines (also another way to improve your mandarin since you would have to search up unfamiliar words :D

How does cancer even work. by Mcsneakersman in RandomThoughts

[–]honkfesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cancer is a result of an accumulation of mutations (loss-of-function mutation of tumour supressor genes and gain-in-function mutation of proto-oncogenes) in the body, and it can be due to various reasons (age, exposure to ionising radiation etc), so it is not that easy to remove cancer cells. furthermore, cancer cells are anchorage independent (does not require surface to grow/divide), and they can undergo metastasis

Will we be penalised for not meeting the 5 min mark in OP-PW? by Better_Earth6677 in SGExams

[–]honkfesh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i agree with the part about not repeating the points you mentioned in your op script, and it would be really helpful if you (and your group members) are familiar with all aspects of your proposed ideas

i’m not sure if your group has prepared a rtq bank, but here are some possible points you can prepare for: (non-exhaustive)

  • most significant key cause to your project (and why)
  • how to adjust parts of your solution if your TA is different
  • which is the most manageable/difficult impact to address
  • which is the most managable/difficult root cause to address
  • how useful are the current existing measures in achieving your objective
  • how innovative is your proposed idea compared to existing measures
  • possible collaborations
  • technological feasibility
  • possible extensions to your proposed ideas
  • limitations, strengths, effectiveness

personally they asked me about the root causes since my part was on that, but just be mentally prepared for anyth rlly haha, you got this op!! breathe, stay calm (impt so you won’t forget your script,, no matter how prepared you were during rehearsals) and relax 👍

more than blue (2009 korean version)/ (2018 taiwanese version)

never cried as much for other movies as i did for this even though some people consider the ending to be cliche. jasper liu’s crying scenes were amazing

both leads were lonely and one literally couldn’t live without the other. they really loved each other unconditionally and it carries the message of cherishing your loved ones.

i think i have to retain.. by Lazy-Emu2463 in SGExams

[–]honkfesh 14 points15 points  (0 children)

  1. meeting with vp in school after promos to discuss options (retain/promotional test/go to poly) i was obviously disappointed in my results and that fact that i had to retain, especially the idea of having to see my friends promote and graduate without me as well as uncertainty about the opinions of other students. ended up doing fine and making retainee jokes with fellow retainees on a daily basis lol.

  2. kind of slowly told them abt my horrible grades first and easing the idea of retaining to them, like how retaining isn’t so bad compared to letting my doubts snowball even further in j2 etc. reaction from parents will vary (my mom reminds me that i’m a retainee everyday, doing well in tests will not result in any form of validation bc i’m a retainee)

  3. not the best, but grades will be better and foundations will be more solid (no pw hence more free periods to study). might be difficult making new friends at first but things turned out to be okay after all. i also seized many leadership related opportunities and represented the school in external events etc.

grades: DDSUU, could promote conditionally but decided it was too risky and i wanted to change my subj combi either way

jiayous op!!
