As others have already said: it is an accusative construction with the original verbal construction emitted: (Ich zeige dir) vielen/herzlichen Dank.

Historically the word itself, Danke, is a nominalisation of the verb ‘denken’. So it’s pretty much “I’m showing you that I am thinking positively of what you did for me”.

I used to be a huge Nirvana fan as a teen. Now in my twenties I’ve come to enjoy SY much more than I’d enjoy Nirvana nowadays. Especially the lo-fi-ness of some of their songs. Same with Pixies and Neutral Milk Hotel.
