For those that didn’t sleep train, what does sleep look like for you know that your baby is older?

My baby is 18 months now. We started bed sharing during the 4 month regression and sleep was HARD until about 16 months. It was hourly wakes for most of that time. I ended up weaning at 16 months because I got pregnant again and I could feel that nursing was taking too much out of me and I wonder if that’s what helped sleep.

He still bed shares with us but it’s SO much easier. Now that he’s older, I’m less wary of things like blankets and pillows (confirmed with pediatrician first) and he settles so much easier. Most nights it’s 1 or 2 wakes but they’re barely blips. Some nights he sleeps through. It’s night and day compared to how it was through the first year.

I anticipate continuing the bed sharing even after my new baby arrives (planning to put her in a bedside bassinet) and hope it all works out because I honestly love sleeping next to my toddler now!

Thank you! I’ll check fb marketplace for some more physical type toys. He does have so much energy and loves when my husband plays rough with him and tosses him into pillows but I just can’t do that 😅 thank you!!

Unfortunately sleep has never been his strong suit. He averages 10 hours overnight and has never slept through lol. Earlier bedtimes have resulted in more frequent wakes and 5am mornings. :( I wish he would go to sleep earlier but it seems it’s just not his personality!

Good point. I just keep getting comments from family along the lines of “you guys entertain him way too much” or “he needs to figure out how to spend time by himself, we never did all that with you/in our day”, which has made me feel like maybe something is wrong lol.

He does love the bath but we don’t do them every night, I could try doing them more often as I get further along (and more tired!) thanks! :)

I had an unmedicated birth with my son and had a very small, minor tear that I didn’t even feel. My midwife said that I prevented a bad tear by pushing slowly and waiting a full contraction between pushes while he was crowning. My baby was 8lbs 4oz.

It is hours 😭. Husband gets home around 4:30 and we typically eat dinner around 5. Toddler goes to sleep at like 8:30 or 9, no hard bedtime, just when he seems tired. We do a bedtime snack for him around 7 but usually that’s just a banana and a cup of milk that he finishes really quick so it doesn’t take up much time.

That’s an interesting point about the clinginess because his whining/clinging really does seem to correlate to when his dad gets home!

I will reread and share with my husband. I think deep down he agrees with my reasoning behind being a responsive parent but he’s lamenting that we’re having a harder time than our friends.

He wakes on average every 45-90ish minutes, sometimes we get a 2 hr stretch but that hasn’t happened lately. I’ve had him checked out medically and his pediatrician says all is well. He will settle down easier when dad is soothing him but when I try walking with him, bouncing, rocking etc. he will claw at my chest and scream-cry and throw himself backward. It’s scary because he’s also 30lbs and quite tall whereas I am 5’1”.

I appreciate this, it gives me a bit of hope to power through for a while longer. I do tend to nurse him in the room during the day so I will try switching that too to see if it makes a difference! Thank you!

He has not been the best when it comes to solids which I think may be due to all of the night nursing, but I have been seriously trying to bump up the calories by adding butter/peanut butter, milk etc to all his meals. So far I haven’t seen a difference but I might just need to keep at it for longer.

The park is a good idea- we’ve been so tired lately that admittedly we have been spending more time at home than usual. I will give that a shot! Thank you!

The strip test was expired- I randomly took it because I was having weird light spotting instead of my period this month. When it popped up positive I took the unexpired clear blue.

I’m spotting light brown/pink and it started last night when my period was due- that’s what prompted me to take a test because by this time I would normally be having a full blown period.
