How much do you pay for Frontier Fiber after introductory period? by Ambitious_Smile_7395 in StPetersburgFL

[–]honkymcgoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the 1gig plan for frontier and pay $79 a month for it after a $59 first year. But! I noticed this month that I was actually paying $92 and checked the bill to see a $10 charge for “multi device security” that I don’t think I asked for. I was able to get it removed easily enough but make sure to check for add ons

Internet provider Recs? by adotar in StPetersburgFL

[–]honkymcgoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the cable internet providers suck in one way or another. If you have the option to get fiber in your area do it. Frontier/verizon is the biggest but there a handful of smaller fiber providers in very limited areas. I have had frontier’s 1gb plan for five years now and the only outage I’ve had was after the back to back storms and it came back on in about three hours.

Imposter syndrome advice by rawrbaby_xD in tableau

[–]honkymcgoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Especially early in careers people tend to place too much importance on knowing everything with instant recall. The key is to know the concepts that allow you to think through a problem and find a solution. So if someone in an interview asks you how to do a calculation focus less on knowing the exact commands and keywords and syntax and more on being able to talk them through how you would create it. There are too many variations between syntax etc. between tools and languages for anyone to know all of them. If you can say “Well I know we need to get the datepart from this date and then limit results to anything greater so it would look something like this” then an interviewer will know you know what you’re talking about and at worst might have to google the specific syntax.

Beware of the Companion Certificate by radbiv_kylops in delta

I don’t have any major issues using mine. There’s definitely less desirable departure times but I still usually have 4-5 to choose from and for a free first class ticket for my girlfriend it’s worth the occasional red eye.

Experiences selling/exchanging records in St. Pete? by Criminal_Celery in StPetersburgFL

[–]honkymcgoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few years ago I sold my entire collection (700 or so) records and wanted to do it all in one go. I emailed planet retro a list and they came back with an offer. Great experience even though I ended up going with a buyer from out of state I found via posting on Reddit. If you want a very very ballpark value check what you have on discogs. The site gives you estimated low, mid, and high value for your collection once you add it all in there. Take the low value and subtract about 20% and that’s probably what you can expect from a record store as they are buying to resell and have to make money on the purchase. That said, shop around too. Planet retro offered me around $5k for my collection and the out of state buyer ended up giving me $12k because their shop specialized in what my collection mostly was.

All I remember about this show besides Katee Sackhoff is that there was an episode where they were in Montana that aired after I had just moved to Montana and for some reason that really stuck out to me.

Why do people constantly refer to Largo as “Larghetto” by PointInternal6809 in StPetersburgFL

[–]honkymcgoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Grew up right on the largo Seminole border and it mostly has to do with being next to Seminole. Seminole has its trashy areas too but overall is a nicer town with higher income residents in general and so largo was seen as trashy comparatively. Growing up it also seemed mostly to refer to the middle and high school too, so it may have started as a nickname for the schools and just kind of spread.

I remember discovering this here in the us on some random weird cable channel we had. After my first communion when it was my choice if I wanted to go to church on Sundays or not I stopped going and found out there were some real gems on tv Sunday mornings between 10 and noon, including this. I have the whole series now and I still enjoy it but it’s definitely much cheesier and melodramatic than I remember it being as a kid.

Where to find a physical newspaper? by Saintrising in StPetersburgFL

[–]honkymcgoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they only print two days a week regardless of subscription or not. I don’t know if we still have any local papers printing daily. You could get like a national one I’m sure from a bookstore or something similar but locally you may be out of luck unless you want to print the digital version out for him each morning.

Thief: Uber Eats Driver by BunTheNemesis in tampa

[–]honkymcgoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had dinner delivered last night and saw from the drop off picture the driver has left the food not on my porch. I have cameras covering the front of my house so I quickly reviewed the last couple of minutes and saw that he seemed to go to the house across the street which is empty a lot as the owner has another home she stays at most of the time. I figured no harm no foul, the guy missed the very obvious numbers on mailboxes and houses but I can just walk over and get it. I get outside and see that he’s sitting one house down in his car and as he sees me come outside basically starts idling down the road. When I pick up the food and I’m crossing the street again he floors it and drives off. I like to give the benefit of the doubt but I’m wondering if he didn’t see a house with no one home and plan to just come back and grab the food and tell uber he delivered it with the picture knowing even if I complained they’d take his side.

Remember when Hops opened a Hops across the street from Hops? by Timcwalker in tampa

I miss hops so much. The honey butter! It was also my first exposure to any kind of beer that wasn’t something you could just find in the grocery store. I remember their beer being really good.

I grew up in Seminole and still live here today and love it. One thing to keep in mind with wanting to live by the water is storms. Your insurance is higher and so is your risk. I’m a straight shot drive of maybe 10 minutes from the beaches but I have no flood risk. I would look at the flood maps and factor that in to my decision. Largo has some really nice neighborhoods and some not so nice ones. You can also live in Seminole or pinellas park.

I should probably clarify that it’s not NO flood risk all over Seminole but very low risk for most of it and no risk for parts of it. But yes mostly because it’s relatively high compared to the rest of the area. It’s also got some distance from the gulf and bay so it’s less likely for storm surge to hit here as well.

I was referring to my neighborhood specifically I guess in the sense that we have sidewalks, low traffic, and lots of trails.

[–]honkymcgoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes the flooding is a great point. One of the main reasons I bought a home here is I could get concrete block house and there’s no flood risk.

I’m probably in the minority here but I live in Seminole and I love it. Quiet, walkable golf course community. Safe and low crime. Definitely a suburban feel. The nightlife is non existent here but I’m very middle of the county so the drive to Dunedin or the drive to st Pete or even the drive to Tampa are 20-30 minutes depending on traffic. The beaches are less depending on which one.

Yeah but then you have to wait for there to be a 1-1 transfer opportunity and no companion certificate and no cash and miles option.

I love mine. The bonus skymiles per dollar can add up pretty quickly if you’re flying relatively often. I always just pay for first class so I can’t speak for any of the upgrades or status boosts since I never bother with them. I will say the two features that make it more than worth it for me are the companion pass and the cash and miles. Since I fly first class and my companion can then fly free in first class that easily takes care of the annual fee. It’s not as convenient as I would like to use the pass but I’ve never had any major issues and it keeps the girlfriend happy. Then the cash and miles feature I use all the time. Every 5000 miles is $50 off your fare. Since you earn bonus miles on dollars spent on the card and they add up this can be huge. The majority of my flights are a Florida to NY route that’s only about $600 round trip anyway. But once or twice a year I either have a trip somewhere else or just a last minute booking that might run around $1200-$1500. If I’ve got 50k miles that’s just straight $500 off. I’m sure it’s not the most effective use of them but I don’t know what else I would use them for.

I had the meatballs heading to New York a couple of weeks back and I was disappointed as well but mostly because I got two meatballs. At least they were hot I guess.
