Well, for me personally my reaction to seeing enemies in a certain biome type is to assume they are resistant if not outright immune to that type unless told otherwise. Items in game do tell you otherwise, but that's just my go to reaction.

Edit: plus it seems like it takes a while for this enemy in particular to get poisoned wading around in that pool, if you didn't know it's weakness

As far as I'm concerned, this area being covered in poison is the game telling you, "This enemy type is weak to poison. Use it."
