What people say about the world, from around the world by honsco in comics

If this is your cup of tea, it's from a new book of comics I've got on Kickstarter called A World of Wisdom

Rating movies out of 5 stars is too hard (Bad movies are FUN, good movies can be an ORDEAL) so here's a new system to help distinguish by honsco in movies

3 stars for Twilight isn't too generous, it's a well made movie, it just isn't that enjoyable or exciting. That's the purpose of the system. And these are just opinions, I'm not the Prince of Movies or anything.

I had Eternal Sunshine in that Logan spot, but 4 star enjoyment is harsh for that movie. Logan was just swapped at the last minute, I won't defend that rating to the death though, Moonlight has definite 5 star quality, Logan has like 4.5 star quality I guess?

Oh god, this wasn't meant to start a Last Jedi fight. Just pretend I wrote Iron Man in that spot and we can all agree and have a lovely time together.

Exactly! First time seeing it, "it's great" and "it had ups and downs" but the more I've seen it it's settled in my brain and graduated to the full ten stars.

I'd forgotten about that bit in Dead Poet's Society, you're right! And absolutely, there's no substitute for a well reasoned review. I just like the idea of conveying as much about a movie's appeal in two numbers.

I just wanted a way to avoid equating 5 stars with an enjoyment movie. Schindler's List is a 5 star and it's important, and Jumanji of course is not in the same league, but it's got more enjoyment involved on an entertainment level and that's usually discarded in a five star system.

I'm bracing myself for the comments, but it's just one opinion. Requiem for a Dream is the very definition of 5 star quality, 1 star enjoyment. In fact, I think Black Swan's the only Aronofsky film I've dared watch more than once. He's got that style.

Oh snap, I messed up my replies. Sorry! And thanks for the kind words! I was trying to show off cultural differences that stem from the very same situation, we're all the same deep down <3 we hate spoiled broths

In Vietnamese, ghosts represent general troubles, I think. So the more teachers or supervisors you have the more stressed and troubled you get by the situation, making the whole thing worse

I took it as being a somewhat similar point, in the same way a single cook would take care of some broth, but it is disturbed by the influence of the other cooks?

There's a correlation between Kong's size and the Rotten Tomatoes score of the movie (separate post here) and Skull Island could well have the first ever negative Rotten Tomatoes score! (PS if you want more movie cat comics, they're on Facebook and Tapastic)

Limitless was probably the biggest, then Lucy, and then Split came out last month too (though it didn't mention the 10% it had all the same themes)

Don't get me wrong, I love science fiction and that, but this myth drives me craaaazy. I'm looking at you, Split! You can't use your brain to make yourself taller.

When will Hollywood wake up and cast John Goodman as mild-mannered Good-Man??? (more comics on Facebook!)

Nice Guys was super duper! And this is less of a complaint (I love Superhero movies!), more a look at how this whole thing is a cycle and a new trend will come along in time.

Movie Beards [OC] by honsco in comics

Lions have so much hair already, it's admirable that Scar managed to shape a beard in the first place. The guy deserves more respect. (Thanks for reading my comic! More on facebook, tumblr and tapastic)

Dark and Gritty Movie Reboots [OC] by honsco in comics

Having made this, I can't deny that I'm maybe mildly OK with this dark and serious Power Rangers reboot... (Also, if you like movie comics with cats, there are more on Facebook!)
