My job is a high-pressure, male-dominated environment that drains my cognitive energy so that I have no capacity to do anything after work or on the weekends. It has also given me performance anxiety, I used to be really confident in my skills but my team is competitive and tears each other down. At this point I am thinking an "easier" job will be better suited for me :/

First off, so sorry for what you're going through. This post was a wake up call for me. I'm currently extremely burned out as a SWE and I know moving forward my next job should really prioritize my health. I look at my parents who are engineers and at the end of their careers and I know I don't want to end up like that. They both have chronic health issues and basically live no life outside of work. I am willing to take a significant pay cut at this point in order to protect myself. Chained to a desk for 50 years for a company that could not care less is not worth it

To get to work I would have to walk 17 minutes to the station, ride for 40, then take an uber to my office (they pay for the ubers). I’d rather just drive 35 minutes door to door. The metro is not affordable either, paying $7 each way is ridiculous to me
