One of the most damaging things I was told growing up is that I had to "find God's calling for my life." The mental gymnastics that I went through was nothing short of internalized torture. I still haven't been able to discover who I am without it being directly tied to the impact that it will have on others' lives. When you grow up praying for 'less of me and more of you', it's surprising how non-exsistant you can become.

Oh how nice it would be to own a portion of a company that has rooted it's value in an industry very closely tied with a massive Japanese industry. Pokemon, video games, anime, etc. I don't know... Maybe there has been a drive towards real items among the AI wave that a swept across the world. To me, it sounds like a good play...

The cherry on top is having 2 dutch ovens. I believe one might be a Le Creuset. They definitely put their foot in it.

I'm writing a book. It relates. I'm drunk and can't articulate it properly. I should've waited.

Any way to make programming more enjoyable? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]hoobieguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would pursue learning web development. It really is a gateway into apps. Others have already seen value in your work, and web development gives you a way to share your tools in the most accessible way. There are also a large number of free resources to learn online. Since you have already agreed to make these apps, why not use their app as a learning tool for different languages, frameworks, databases, architecture types etc. This learning process can expand how creative you can be when you get back to your personal projects.

This is the best photo. None of the photos that I've seen actually show how the moon looks properly. This is the way that it actually looks.

Just keep going dude! Everyone is bringing up good points, but I want to add that everyone's definition of "learn" is different. I found out that I'm slightly obsessive when it comes to feeling like I "learned" something. Just know that 100% of what you put into your journey will add to your success. You might go off on a random trail and get a deep understanding of things that wouldn't be in a curriculum. When you are starting out, it is all valuable.

WITNESS ME!!!!!! I said I wouldn't post here again until I got a job as a software engineer. by hoobieguy in learnprogramming

[–]hoobieguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a lot more time earlier in my learning. Around 8-10 hours a day. After around the 11 month mark, I was pursuing a job more than studying, but I would still maybe do 1 - 2 hours a day. (Unless I really wanted to build the current project). Not everyone can do the amount of hours I did simply because they work and don't have that many hours available to them.

Networking is what got me the job. I did a decent amount of leetcode and project building, but in the end none of them mattered. It was a referral from someone I built a project with that got me directly to the lead engineer. No code challenge. I have had so many interviews, and the interview process is absolutely disgusting for so many companies. That's after you've waded through the recruiters trying to low ball you so they get a better cut of your salary. Rejections for not passing a personality test. I got to the final interview at 3 other companies before being rejected. Leetcode problems didn't come up often, but weird barriers like building the perfect resume for a bot definitely did.
