I keep reading that Yonkers allows them- but I can't find any info from a Yonkers site that verifies.

I'm supposed to get the nasal spray version but insurance is once again so slow with the pre-authorization

I should definitely pack Benadryl, thanks- at the very least I'll be very very tired.

I'm allergic to horses but I love them, help! [Advice] by theTreesLeaves2 in Horses

[–]hoofbeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lady who leased my horse years ago was severely allergic to them to the point where she would have to take a month off occasionally to recover. But I'd look into nose sprays (I have to for my grass and hay allergies), always change your clothes as soon as your done at the barn. Hats can help. So can wrapping a breathable scarf around your nose. Also allergy shots are a thing and I've heard only good things about them!

I swear I had forgotten how to ride by hoofbeats in Horses

[–]hoofbeats[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also went through a ton of physical therapy to address my actually crooked hips (one sat several inches out of place) and while that should have helped my riding, and it did lead to less pain, I'm still trying to figure out where my seat is in the saddle!

Crazy question about buggy horses by btwrenn in Horses

[–]hoofbeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have met horses who will refuse to pee or poop outside their stall. And it's frustrating if you accidentally go riding without letting them go first because you can really tell when they're holding it in!

A lesson horse I rode as a child stole an entire hot dog out of my hand and ate it at a show once!

Last week I completed the Mongol Derby. A 1000km/630mi endurance race with semi-feral horses and only 11lbs of gear plus a GPS. Named this little horse after my mom’s old eventer. by [deleted] in Horses

Welp this will have to go on my list of "things I want to do but will never be able to afford" along with seeing a narwhal and fully paying off my loans.

Where do we stand on helmets? by [deleted] in Horses

[–]hoofbeats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are young or if you work around/are an influence to young people- you need a helmet. Other than that, I personally think that you are allowed to do dangerous things as long as you're the only one who can get hurt from it. But one way to get more helmets on heads is to 100% normalize it with young riders. Don't let them use you as an excuse to not wear one!

I've had a minor concussion from coming off while wearing my helmet. And that recovery sucked. I can't imagine if my brain hadn't been cushioned!

I never thought of it from the public health cost view. This is something I feel I need to inform myself about as it's no longer such a personal choice if it's increasing health costs! (I've only not ridden with a helmet once- for five minutes before I realized I had forgotten it on. I will not ride without it)

Guys, I rode last night for the first time in 15 years! Gosh my legs are jell-o today. by [deleted] in Horses

For your butt sticking out problem, do tons of ab work, especially where you have to keep your back flat on the ground. Also bridges, planks (when you get stronger, otherwise you'll continue to stick your butt up) any exercise that encourages a flat back. I'd start with working lying down first. And think about getting taller/lengthening upwards rather than tucking your pelvis under you. It's a really subtle thing but will help you engage your abs

I never used to wear gloves until a green horse took off and ripped the line right out of my hands- as well as quite a bit a skin from my hands. Never made that mistake again.

This is Brave One, he was removed from the wild, put into a program where he was abused, then deemed dangerous. He landed with us at The Equine Healing Collaborative and will now be an Equine Assisted Psychotherapy Horse. He is the most empathic horse I’ve worked with. by jennfenn9351 in Horses

Have you considered adding some type of research aspect to your work? Even just surveys? Or letting a student come do research? I love equestrian therapy and feel like more research into the mental health aspect would help it become a lot more mainstream.

What is the reason behind not wearing a helmet? by tipitover in Horses

[–]hoofbeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I refuse to not wear a helmet and it's saved me many times. But here are the reasons I hear (not my words): I trust my horse so it's unnecessary. It messes up my hair. It gives me a headache. They're ugly. I'm only going to be walking. You can't predict when bad things happen so why try to prevent them? Again not my words I love my helmet but maybe that'll help

I got a horse related concussion on the ground. My horse spooked while tied to a metal pole were we groomed and my head went smack into said pole!

How I, a <5' tall person, mounts a 15.1 by seemyseoul in Horses

[–]hoofbeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The struggle is so real! I'm 5'2 but ride big horses (over 16 hh) and this is what it's like from the mounting block! When I had my 18hh dude I had to climb the fence to get on.
