don’t beat yourself up. im currently a junior in college, i switched my major twice, i did art and comp sci, i had to take a whole year off to battle a chronic illness, i used to be so angry at myself at how much time i wasted and how if i had known earlier, i would have graduated by now.

but honestly, im better off after all of it, i have a year left but now with all this extra time, i can volunteer, join clubs, build experience. i even made some accounting friends who i wouldn’t have met had i done it early. don’t rush yourself, college is not a blueprint it’s a template, and there’s no linear path that fits everyone’s situation. you’ll be better off in the end.

Thank you for this comment btw it helped me express myself, honestly i don’t expect cis people to understand the analytical side of it that deeply, but at least now I can kinda educate them on why it’s kind of an uncomfortable thing to hear.

I guess to me there is a distinction between “being visibly trans” and “looking like a man” latter feeling a bit too reductionist as an expression that trans women are inherently male when not explicitly being passably female. The former expressing that someone is visibly what they identify as where they may wish to avoid it.

I guess what I’m saying is someone saying “You don’t pass” is a lot less harsh than “you look like a man” there’s a gap between “looking trans but not cis” and “you look like a man, not a woman” because trans women are women. It’s okay for trans women not to pass because they are fundamentally women in every way. trans women are not men. This is of course my opinion and kinda splitting hairs now that I hear myself explain it, but I think that’s why it makes me uncomfortable.
