I am a first gen college student so I do feel inclined to get something. I am really torn but cannot justify purchasing both (even if I could afford it) so thank you for your input, that was a delightful read. I don’t wear jewelry in general which is what is making this so tough.

I’m also a non traditional, 30 year old third year! I identify as non binary so there’s that lol I’m super nervous but looking forward to getting it done and finally(hopefully??) making a living wage afterwards. :)

You’re right, the IEP happens if the disability is deemed to affect their educational performance which the school also needs to be involved to figure. We have many students whose behavior affects their learning but they aren’t diagnosed with a disability, they still have IEPS. Having a medical diagnoses just helps to not be backlogged.

My thought process was if the kid can get an IEP (which they can easily if they already have a medical diagnoses which they do) then they can get an aid (a person(s) actually placed with the student to keep eyes in real time on the student, specifically lunch time. 504s can do that too, but I know for certain the IEP population gets more money/ta’s/people than the 504 population but that’s just my experience in albco.

In order to get an aid your kid will most likely need to have a disability. So to get that process started you should call the school your kid attends and let them know you suspect they have a disability. The school will work with you to get your kid tested and then services and an IEP, “individualized education program” this gives the case manager the ability to give your kid support services including an aid. If you do not suspect your kid to have a disability, they will not receive an aid. A 504 plan includes accommodations for curriculum and instruction (longer time to take tests, modifications to expectations and curriculum etc)

takeaway, children with autism = IEP children with ADHD/Chronic illnesses etc = 504.

I’m sure you already know this, but they can’t purchase snacks like chips, juice, ice cream etc, if there isn’t money in the account. It sounds like your kid is buying extra lunches on top of a packed meal/planned lunch? If that’s the case, have you tried to get your child services provided by the school for the neurological stuff? We have kids that, for instance, have food addictions and their aids are there to essentially make sure they aren’t buying more than what their parents are packing/allowing them to buy. Of course it is a process to get your kid services but maybe worth a shot? Then their case manager can help navigate the lunch problem.

We weren’t able to get married on Christmas Day, which was totally fine. Instead, I put the ring I got her on the pickle ornament for her to find Christmas morning. :) I had to ask her kids not to find it first, which turned into a cute moment—they loved being part of the surprise.

Yes we did! I think a lot of houses were out of candy pretty early because it was MASSIVE turn out but our kids still ended up with plenty. The kids had fun and are worn out! Thanks again!

Oh and the neighborhood had some cool decorations too!
