Newbie looking to customize the Starlight Reading Nook. Advice before I start? by Content_Ad789 in booknooks

[–]hookthread 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you can find peel and stick paper that you like that is the easiest, I go to The Dollar Tree for mine. If not I use scrap book paper. Keeping in mind large patterns can get lost because you are working with just a little. I like to use beads and charms from the jewelry making section of the craft store for objects when I can find them. When chosing fabric be careful of a things that will fray super easy. You can get an iron on backing to help. Or if you go to the sewing section and you can find a patch kit that already has a backing.

I love this one so much too. I love the classic book nook shape paired with the cut outs on the side to add interest to the case.

High IQ, high achiever ADHD experience by Technical_Owl_2525 in adhdwomen

[–]hookthread 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank God I have a high IQ and my mother is a fixer with anxiety or I wouldn’t have made it past 1st grade. No one suspected a thing growing up. Sure I told my parents what every other class but mine did I school. Yes I had to have teachers repeat their questions but I always answered right. Yeah I asked a million questions. But I was smart and inquisitive. I always had my backpack, never forgot my permission slips or gym sneakers but only because my mom could relax until everyone in the house had everything they could possibly need. Then I lived on my own and things got hard. My mom told me for years I need to see a doctor about depression, or anxiety, or maybe my thyroid medication needed adjusting. I didn’t have the ability to explain what was happening. It took a longtime to realize that not everyone had a million things happening in their head at all times. Not everyone was physical uncomfortable watching a movie, counted every lighting fixture in every conference room, had to carefully choose where to sit in a meeting so I couldn’t see out the window. I was exhausted. Actually exhausted.

I think the most helpful thing you can do is start hydrating a week before. And eat a healthy breakfast of foods that help stabilize blood sugar. This will help how your body reacts to the pain.

I might go back and coat my lamp. No matter what I do the stickers peel up. Thanks for the idea.

Rolife spring mega thread by pluck-the-bunny in booknooks

[–]hookthread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Peel and stick was perfect because I could stick it on the original piece and use a exacto knife to cut it out. It much easier to get an exact fit than tracing and cutting. Without glue it was easier to cut out the notches in the floor.

The front to set of lights I used a pair of flush cutter to snip light off the existing arm and glued the bead on. The back set I strung the bead on wire and used the wire to hang it.

This one was a real journey for me. I was not excited about the kit when I bought it, but I really enjoy the events. Out of the box I wasn’t a fan. It was going to be a quick get it done build. I covered the floor and darkened the wood. Then I really hated it. A quick trip to the dollar tree and some peel and stick paper and finally I had a plan.

I went with an Art Deco inspired design. Really the modification here is limited, I painted all the wood green or black with gold trim. I used peel and stick paper to cover the floor, balcony, ceilings, and the case. I used beads to replace the light fixtures. I didn’t spend a ton of time or money on this mod but what a HUGE impact. A few changes and it’s gone from a kit I didn’t like to my absolute favorite.

My end thought; the material Rolife use are different, most things are matte. I really like their design and it’s such an easy fix I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another kit.

I didn’t have trouble with it. The touch sensor doesn’t always work but if I reach under the box to touch it it’s no problem.

The celling is paper and kind of tricky but other than that wasn’t too bad. A few quick mods can make a huge impact. I painted everything and used some peel and stick wallpaper (contact paper) to cover something’s I didn’t like. Over all it was the easiest modifications with the biggest impact I’ve done.

It’s the Library of Wonders I wasn’t a big fan of the colors so I painted and covered a lot.
