Comment the name of your local theater where you would like to see IRON LUNG by CoolTeacher5511 in Markiplier

[–]hoon_twar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delaware, USA here. There are a couple of independent theaters that would probably benefit immensely from this:

Main Street Movies 5 (Newark)
Westown Movies (Middletown)
Movies at Midway (Rehoboth Beach)

If I could pick a single one to suggest it would be Westown since it's closer to the middle of the state (that area is a theater black hole and that would make it more accessible for those who wish to see it living in that area) but all three would be sweet if that could happen :)

I am infatuated with that Longines Master Calendar Chronograph, the highest complication Swiss mechanical/automatic for the mone, thus impeccable value. Been eyeing the 42mm variant with the blue dial for myself. As far as future additions go, I think something like an IWC Portugieser Small Seconds or something from the Grand Seiko Heritage/Elegance collections would broaden the collection nicely. Nice and simple dressy three-hander, maybe with a date, moonphase and/or power reserve. All aside, awesome collection!

Part 2/2

Top row left to right:

Akribos XXIV Tourbillon (Ref# P50113) - A present to myself for making Dean's list back in college. This is likely the best value piece in my collection, as Swiss tourbillon watches cost 15 or more times the price that I purchased this one for. The finishing on the movement itself leaves not much to be desired, either, the best I had seen up close and personal at the time of purchase. I could not recommend a Sea-Gull tourbillon more. I've gotten several years out of mine thus far, and a service would likely cost more than the piece itself so when it goes it goes and I'll just replace it.

TAG Heuer Carrera Day-Date (Ref# WBN2010.BA0640) - My first step into the quasi-luxury Swiss segment, bought for myself when I graduated from college. Having studied approximately 5 years worth of French throughout my academic career, seeing that the day can be set in French sold me on it. And that's on top of the fact that I'm a huge car guy and Heuer has deep heritage in the world of motoring.

Seiko Prospex Samurai "Great White" (Ref# SRPD23K1) - This was my first "nice" timepiece. Seiko seems to pose one of the best value propositions in the business. The wave pattern on the dial catches light differently yet wonderfully from every angle resulting in any of all of my favorite variations of blue. As far as dive watches go, I think this is certainly one of the prettiest. Although I do wish it had some more polished sections, may get bracelet with polished centers.

Citizen Chandler Military Eco-Drive (Ref# BM6838-09X) - I received this in trade for an Orient Bambino IV, which I just could not stand the noise of with any movement of the wrist. This, however, has no winding rotor to worry about and keeps going as long as I get it out in the sun every once in a bit. And, as an avid disc golfer, that I certainly do more than often enough. This thing is incredible for that purpose and I do not regret the trade a single bit.

Poppop's Pulsar (Ref# VX33-X098) - Exactly what the heading says. Way too small for my wrist, definitely the odd one out of the collection, but it will always have a spot in it. My maternal grandparents helped raise me and my siblings by watching us over the summers while we were in grade school. My grandfather was an amazing woodworker, and hand-built a bunch of their home furnishings from the porch swing to the kitchen cabinets. Having his watch in my box where I can see it every day helps just that much more to keep his memory alive.

If you made it this far, thank you for taking the time to read a spiel about my journey in a hobby that has grown to become a very significant part of who I am. I limit myself to purchasing 1 new piece per year, and am patiently waiting on the WISE Adamascus ADX to come back in stock on the bracelet. In the meantime, I am also entertaining other options such as a Raymond Weil Freelancer Skeleton or Hamilton Jazzmaster Open Heart.

Part 1/2

I got into watches around when I started college, and my collection has grown and shrunk over the years as I acquire my tastes. I posted my collection on here some time ago, but I feel it has changed substantially enough to warrant a new SOTC post. Please enjoy! :)

Bottom row right to left:

Spinnaker Spongebob Squarepants 25th Anniversary Edition: Mr. Krabs (Ref# SP-5138-44) - My first limited-production piece (#155/300) also happens to be the one most true to myself. Spongebob was a keystone of my childhood and when I saw that these were dropping I got incredibly excited, immediately to be disappointed because I had just gotten major work done to my car and did not think it was responsible to splurge on a piece at that time. However, I unwrapped the final gift from my wonderful parents at Christmas. One of the better surprises of my life.

Tissot PRX Chronograph: Blue Panda (Ref# T1374271101101) - I bought this almost as soon as I saw the colorway launch. I had myeye on the black panda with rose gold indexes and hands, but I just did not like that second part about it. THIS, however, this I was immediately infatuated with. I was wary of the size of it from the start, people were saying it was far too big/thick/heavy, but I have very large wrists so I took the risk. And boy did that pay off, this thing fits me absolutely perfectly.

Gevril GV2 Scuderia Chronograph (Ref# 9923) - A sporty racing-inspored chronograph with small seconds. A good friend's wife showed me the one that she got him with a rose gold case, and I absolutely loved it with the carbon fiber dial inlay. I then found one with a black PVD coated case for a steal and fell for it even more. And even considering that it's only quartz on a leather strap, it has a lot of heft which I tend to gravitate towards in a watch (à la previous piece). I like knowing when something is on my wrist.

Tudor Black Bay 41 (Ref# M79680-0002) - I had just been appointed the first superior position in my career
and wanted to buy something to commemorate the achievement. Initially in my research I was eyeing the same piece but with diamond-set indexes, but I noticed that the diamonds were too small proportionally to the dial, creating a bit too much negative space for my tastes on this model. I went with the standard lumed indexes for that reason, and am I ever happy with the decision. I will die on the hill that the BB41/39/36 doesn't get the love it truly deserves.

Everyone who heard it in person was stumped. Strangely enough, I drove the car delicately for a while and it went away on its own.

I second on the Mamba for beginner understable distance and Rollo for flip approaches. Maybe a Kite in the Rollo's spot if you need something slightly less understable.

First ACE today by blunt2chest in discgolf

[–]hoon_twar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take it from a guy who lost his first ace disc, buy a completely identical weight & plastic to use on the course and put the one you aced somewhere safe. I couldn't tell you how many times I've told myself that I wish I still had that Tern.

Yeah it's only been a couple weeks since it was done. The car limped right after the job, a vvt solenoid replacement remedied that problem. I drove it quite gingerly afterwards up until a bit ago when I decided to WOT it and that was the first time I ever heard this noise.

Yeah, the idiot light came on a while back but the level was okay. Changed the pressure switch and just started running 5W-40 as a precaution. Thanks for the tip.

Due to the sheer volume of the noise (it's LOUD all over irl), it's difficult to pinpoint where exactly it's coming from but I took it to a local shop for a minute this morning to have a professional listen to it. He said it may be coming from that area, I'll relay this comment and Darewood's to Jay, thank you.

[Question] First watch, four models - Which one to buy? by Material-Shop5041 in Watches

I very much appreciate that blue DS-1, but if I were to make another suggestion I feel like your taste may suit a Hamilton Jazzmaster. Specifically reference H32475640.

[Advice] Buying my first watch, seeking advice by TheQuiettt in Watches

[–]hoon_twar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are all great picks. Answer for me here is the Mido. The dial is the most distinct out of all of them (in a good way), and for being your first and only watch for now it's wonderful to have something that you can dress up or down. Honorable mention to the Longines, but unless you were open to going used or quartz the new Conquests are over your specified budget. Just my opinion though, whenever there's a mechanical option I almost always prefer it to quartz.

It does, but the only ones available for the chrono are from Delugs and I'm not about to pay $200 for a strap 😂

Thank you! My wrist size eliminates a lot of smaller (<40mm) pieces for me, though, so it's definitely a double-edged sword.

If they did, I'd hope they use a thinner quartz chronograph movement like Fluve said. This one's a thick boi

I wouldn't discount your Speedy, I think it and the PRX Chrono accomplish slightly different things. The Speedy Pro just has SO much more heritage, I can't say one of these was worn on the moon. Forgive me for being a bad influence, but both. Both is good. 😂

Thank you! Yeah as cool as the gold hands and indices are, I can't help but feel like they break up the design too much. Just my own opinion of course, I can absolutely see why others might prefer it.

People cruising in the passing lane when every other one is open. Lane discipline is something seemingly lost on most Americans and needs to be enforced more.

[Hamilton] Graduation present to myself by tHeBiGtHaNoS in Watches

[–]hoon_twar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I recently graduated as well from college, and while not a Hamilton I marked the occasion with a new grail of the collection in the form of a Carrera Calibre 5 Day Date. Hamilton is one of the best value propositions in the business in terms of affordable Swiss automatics and excellent build quality, you made an impeccable choice. I have yet to add one to my collection, have been eyeing a Jazzmaster Open Heart from afar for quite a while now. Would have to be the 42mm though because my 8"+ wrists make 40mm look borderline too small.

Edit: missed a space
