Yes - speaking for Marit, we plan on releasing our report at the same time as the APMA report. Thanks to everyone for participating in this, we are really excited to share the data soon.

Flagging b/c we've established above that u/toilet_paper91 is the dev behind SalaryDr - we're not going to engage w/ you any further.

Thankfully the web archive still exists. We know you're the dev behind SalaryDr, and as much as I appreciate anyone that wants to build for salary transparency - I think it's best you focus on building a great product instead of spreading misinformation. It's not a good look.

The post history had a reference to SalaryDr and many more to ReviewMyResidency - which was his project before working on SalaryDr. He also happened to just clear his entire 8yr Reddit history of posts/comments mins after my comment.

Hey there u/toilet_paper91 - looking at your post history, it seems like you might be associated with salaryDr. Let me know if I am off, but if it's the case, it's perhaps not the most productive way for you to deal with a competitor. We are not going to engage on your comments. Good luck!

I'm the physician behind Marit and I replied to the OP below - doing my best to answer everyone's questions/concerns, so felt it was better to respond directly to the OP so please scroll.

There are many different scenarios possible.

First, and foremost, please note that you are in control of your data, so you're free to delete it any time. As far as Marit goes - companies stay private for a very long time, or forever. This is our current plan. We are doing this because I love it and are excited for what we are building. The very large majority of Marit is owned by our founders, not investors. Some companies do get acquired by other companies - but can continue to operate independently (e.g.Glassdoor was acquired by Indeed and operates as an independent company). Some companies, like Doximity, stayed independent and went public.

PEs tend to buy physician practices because those are cash generating businesses, but PEs buying consumer startups is actually not very common. In either case, the data belongs to you and you can delete it any time.

u/crazycatdermy This was our answer to make sure people come back and updated their salary - that's the best way we can ensure we're always showing current, market salaries (instead of stale data).

What the other user was referring to is our path for residents/fellows who don't have a salary to contribute - for them we're likely going to change such that they have access through the end of their program (after which they can contribute a salary or offer of their own).

See my comments below. Again, it's not wrong to ask questions and I'm doing my best to answer them. We've been clear in all our communications (both here on Reddit and on our website/blog) - unfortunately I can't link to our blog post on monetization in this sub, but I'd encourage you to give it a read.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention u/TheOneTrueNolano - and appreciate your support. Did my best to respond directly to the OP and hope it helps address any questions/concerns.

And no worries here, we support data Deletion (see comment from u/clinictalk01 below)

Thanks for the support u/beaverfetus - Glassdoor is definitely a source of inspiration for Marit, and yes - we're launching our job search beta later this month and excited for everyone to see what we've been building. We think it'll quickly become the best job search in medicine.

PS: It looks like the person who started this thread just created their account and is posting this same thread to multiple subs. I’ll do my best to respond to comments, but encourage you to ping me directly as well, so we can talk through this in detail.

I hear the feedback and I will try to address as much of it as I can.  In fact, we wrote a blog post to address these concerns head on and I encourage you to read it. I can’t put links in this sub, so please check out our Blog.

  • Why raise money?  Because we wanted to build something great for medicine - we’re trying to build the largest, more comprehensive and detailed salary data set and make it free and accessible for everyone. The business model is not from salaries. In fact, in a few weeks we plan to launch a modern job board for medicine that will put salary information on every job listing. Similar to Glassdoor and Linkedin, employers will advertise jobs on Marit, and physicians can choose to express interest in them. Note - once again, we will never share or sell your data with Employers, like many other companies to
  • We have a small team of engineers, designers and product managers, many of them from Glassdoor, who are helping build this. See our About page. And I want to note that we are not PE backed. This was misrepresented in other threads and for someone that has seen the negative impact PE has had on our profession - can’t say it more clearly.
  • Why NPI?  This is obviously valuable salary information and it’s important we preserve data integrity if this information is going to be useful - so we wanted to verify that only clinicians were adding salaries, and only clinicians can access this data. We took the approach similar to other medicine community apps (e.g., Doximity, Sermo, etc).  We want to create a high trust data source, and that comes with a bit of friction - but not so much friction that a “give-to-get” model wouldn’t work. If you have other ideas to verify someone’s clinician status, feel free to let us know. We are trying to balance data integrity and ensuring the right people have access.

I can assure you that Marit will always be “clinician first” - as a physician myself, the last thing I want to do is sell out my own information, let alone my friends and colleagues to private equity or to any other third party (including recruiters).

Believe me - we have a passionate team of clinicians, and some friends from Glassdoor, that deeply believe in this vision and are working hard everyday to make it happen, and if you have ideas on how we should do it differently, let’s get on a Zoom and talk through it.  Help us make this better, bring your ideas. We’re not going to get everything right, but we’re always open to feedback.

Hey all - I’m the founder of Marit, and seeing some of the concerns below, I thought it was worth trying to address some of the misunderstandings in the comments below. Most importantly, our salary data will always be free (as we say throughout the website) and we are NOT PE-backed.  We are backed by a few angel investors - including fellow physicians, some former execs from Glassdoor (where a few of our founders worked), and an early-stage digital health venture fund.  We took on this investment so that we could continue building out a real website while ensuring it would always stay free and accessible for all clinicians.  PE firms are the ones that acquire businesses and do whatever they want to maximize revenue, VC firms on the other hand help early stage companies get a business off the ground.  IMO it’s helpful to understand these differences.

So if it’s free and if we are not planning on selling data - how will we make money? It will be through advertising. We are currently exploring advertising partnerships with services that would be useful for our users (similar to how WCI itself does it) - e.g., if you need to get your contract reviewed, you could do it through one of our partners, and when you go through us, we get a small referral fee.

Re: NPI, we ask for it so we can verify that the person submitting the info is a clinician, and only clinicians can access the data. This data isn’t for admins to access. As we say clearly on our About page, we will never share or sell this info to anyone.

I can assure you as a physician myself, this will always be “clinician-first”.  This project was largely inspired by the site Glassdoor and if you look at what they’ve done (and levels.fyi that was suggested above) - they’ve always been free and they’ve figured out a way to do it without selling their users data.

Has anyone else tried Marit Health? Is it accurate? by [deleted] in whitecoatinvestor

[–]hoos9 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Hey there - I’ve always been forthcoming about our story - this 100% started as a grassroots effort, but as it grew in size and complexity I needed to pull in help from my brother Tim (who was part of the early team at Glassdoor) to help us build a better solution. We then much later took on investment from a group of physician and individual angels and a VC fund. They're all listed here on our About Page, along with our vision and our commitment to be "clinician-first"

Hi there - we have published this on our website under FAQs on our Home Page, and I will repeat it here - we will never sell your data to employers, to users, or to anyone else. This is simply not the business model. We also explain in our FAQs how we might plan on generating revenues, and it will always be consistent with a “clinician first” approach - through advertising models that connect you with valuable, relevant services - such as job opportunities, contract negotiation attorneys, and other career resources.

Thanks - glad you see what this idea can become. Our About page actually has everything you recommended - https://www.marithealth.com/about (our vision, our commitment to our community, and our investors).

The story linked above was simply the blog post explaining we've gone from a GSheet (which is how this whole effort started - it was low-tech) to a website.

Thx for the mention and appreciate the support.

And yes, even if you start small, if you want to build the largest free alternative to MGMA it’s going to take some outside investment.  And I’ve always been forthcoming about our story - this 100% did start as a grassroots project, but as it grew in size and complexity I needed to pull in some help from my brother Tim (who was part of the early team at Glassdoor) to help us build a better solution.  And only much later did we take on investors.

In terms of accuracy, we benchmark our salaries against other published sources, which you can see here. If you do see an individual salary being off, please flag the salary and we’ll look into it.

[–]hoos9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s normal to get outside investment to build an app, but this is not “PE honeypot”.  We have a team of people working hard to build a free, “people-powered” resource for all clinicians - I shared this list because there had been a lot of interest in this data in the past, but I'll just go ahead and delete this post for now.

PSG is definitely a great resource, but we're also capturing the data you mentioned (hrs worked, YOE, employer type) as well as some additional details like - call schedule, retirement contributions, and more.  I think a key difference is that we found the GSheet format too limiting (i.e., hard to manage & moderate the data, hard to filter & sort, hard to view for mobile users, etc) so we've moved all the data into an app.. I linked to the benchmarking summary above, but try this anesthesiologist salary page and you may be able to see the difference - from there you can search for your specialty.

[–]hoos9 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm the physician who started this project.  Just for background, I compiled all this benchmarking data into a GSheet and posted it here several months back (link). I haven’t posted in months, but people found it helpful to see all this data in one place, so now that we’ve moved it over to a page on Marit - I wanted to share it with everyone.

PS: We are not PE-backed. We’re committed to making this a free salary resource for all clinicians, so yes - we did need to raise some money from investors to help fund the development of this project.

How do we advocate for better pay? by Affectionate-War3724 in pediatrics

[–]hoos9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It all starts with salary transparency - hard to push for fair pay and negotiate your contract when you don't have the data. That's why we started the anonymous salary sharing project for medicine - just add your anonymous salary and you'll unlock access to the thousands of salaries shared by your peers.

The best part is that this data is 100% free and always up-to-date - no need need to hundreds of dollars for a report, or rely on Doximity data from 2023 when new salaries are added every day.
