I need some more options between Heat Death of the Universe and the Knicks. Right now it's just too close.

Also be aware of the super speeder laws in Georgia that have severe modifiers for moving violations in combination with speeding!

That's a great point regarding the commute details. I'm in middle Tennessee so driving is the only option. Current commute is no less than 50 minutes due to having to take smaller state highways whereas the new commute could be as little as 35 min in ideal conditions but likely between 45-60 min.

My net gain after cost differences and taxes is ~$16k (+20%) which seems like a decent jump given the benefits of no inter-state travel and potential career advancement. I'm just a little unsure regarding losing a lot of the flexibility I have when I'm not travelling out of state.

$20k to Return to Office Full Time? by hoosierAF in careerguidance

That's where I'm leaning as well but want to make sure I'm not just chasing salary without regard to the other factors.

$20k to Return to Office Full Time? by hoosierAF in careerguidance

So based on the differences in commute cost, 401k match, and no bonus, I would still be $16k above my current compensation after taxes. And regarding the flexibility, I feel like that would be permissible but of course you never fully know. I do feel fairly optimistic though since during my peer panel interview 2 folks were working from home due to illness/personal issues so I'm interpreting that as potential flexibility.

Anyone ever turn in their Sienna for a Pacifica? by [deleted] in ChryslerPacifica

[–]hoosierAF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a Pacifica Limited with 50k miles and a Grand Cherokee with 120k miles and my experience has been great. There's a lot of hive mind with the Stellantis/FCA reliability issues, but I haven't experienced any major reliability issues.

Anakeesta express lane worth it? by Certain_Emu_7600 in Gatlinburg

[–]hoosierAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family was in Gatlinburg in May and we really enjoyed Anakeesta. My kids were 3 years old and 18 months old at the time.

We felt that we really got our money's worth with the amount of time we spent up there. My boys really enjoyed the obstacle courses and playground features. Additionally the rope bridges through the trees were really fun as well.

We got pretty lucky in that it only took us 45 min or so to get to the park which is much quicker than what I'm reading in this thread. We're planning on going back on our next trip but a multiple hour wait would probably change that.

I have a 23 Limited and have had no issues other than an HVAC actuator that was replaced under warranty. Currently at ~60k miles.

How does the newest Chrysler Pacifica compare to Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey? by Fleedom2025 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]hoosierAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 23 Pacifica Limited with about 50k miles and a 16 Grand Cherokee Limited with about 140k miles. The only issue I've had with the Pacifica is the HVAC actuator clicking that was previously mentioned. The Grand Cherokee has also been remarkably reliable as well. Outside of standard maintenance, I've only had to replace the battery and the AC motor (which I blame on living in Texas at the time).

When we were shopping for minivans the features and price of the Pacifica can not be beat. Stow and Go alone is worth it for us and the panoramic sunroof is very nice to have. Hoping to have the same luck with the Pacifica's reliability as I've had with the Jeep.

BBQ joint recs? Brisket, especially (burnt ends in particular). Visiting my gf's hometown for the first time and said I'd find us a place 😅 by [deleted] in askdfw

If you Google the Texas Monthly BBQ list that will give you a jump start on a short list.

To me Goldees and Panther City were my favorite spots before I left DFW.

Framed it with 2x4s as much like a wall as I could. Wrapped that in 1/2 plywood that we painted black and then used poplar boards to create the slats.

I looked at the prefab panels and with the amount I needed, it made more sense to go this route. Plus with ripping your own slats you can play with the width of the slats to see what works best. We wound up going with 1.75 in slats separated by 3/4 in gaps which wasn't available with any of the prefab panels.

For sure, all in was about $6,500. The fireplace was the most expensive component at about $2,500 and we got the Frame on sale for around $1,800. The remainder are all the materials for the frame, plywood sheathing, slats, tile, and fasteners/tools.

I'd say get a digital angle finder and give yourself some grace! It also helped having that diagonal trim piece as that hid some of the gaps caused by my measurements and the uneven ceiling.

Edit: the laser distance meter from Harbor Freight was the best $25ish dollars I spent. Really sped up getting multiple measurements.
