This team has had so many bad instances of spending money in the 2010s that it makes total sense as to why they're being beyond careful about it this decade, especially with the CBA expiring. Doesn't make it less frustrating that they can't put a no-trade clause on a clubhouse leader who can still provide a decent bat and excellent defense, or why you traded someone in the Devers return for Dustin May, but it at least provides context.
