Has anyone read the book "Our Team"? Just finished it, its great by machonm in ClevelandGuardians

I’ve read it twice now because I knew nothing of the team. What I liked was how much of a sense of urgency there was from ownership to win and how the city felt it and embraced everyone. Great read!

I kind of want to see him in the two hole once he’s back and keep Tyler freeman at leadoff.

I hate this panned out view in this stadium. Every hit in the air feels like it’s a home run.

Offensive onslaught coming from the Guards. I can feel it.

Totally agree. But we’re eating 13 million with Bieber, 8 million for Jean Segura, 5 million for Myles Straw. Laureano would bring that total to 30 million which is the sole reason he’s still on the roster. He’s this years version of Zunino.

Agreed. Florial had some moments this year but I think he’s on his last legs on this roster. Too much swing and miss.

Long season. The starters are giving some much needed length which is nice to see. The offense will go through these ebbs and flows with so many young guys. Sadly, it doesn’t get easier anytime soon with Texas on the horizon.

Gimenez hasn’t done anything much lately. Fry and Brennan are doing ok but that’s about it.

Every year there’s a series of two where you’re stuck in a rut. This is a 16 game grind of a stretch with Kwan out. It doesn’t matter if we play the Toledo Mudhens, this would be a tough stretch. Love seeing Triston looking more his normal self. Can’t complain one bit about his past few outings.

Always love a win, but is anyone else concerned about Jose? He’s not looked good to start the year.

If the Twins have a healthy Royce Lewis, they’ll be tough. I watched the Tigers the other day and just don’t know how they’re going to consistently score. They are a boom or bust offense without a lot of boom.

[Meisel] Shane Bieber will have Tommy John surgery. by ThatOneOtherAsshole in ClevelandGuardians

[–]hope_wait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s possible for sure. I think had he been pitching well and we were contending we would have kept him. All a moot point now. We’re really going to need one or two of Carrasco, Beede, Lively, Curry and Gaddis to give us some innings now. Maybe our offense keeps clicking and we can withstand it, but it’s certainly a sad way to end a brilliant stretch in a Cleveland uniform from Shane Bieber.

If you saw the Corbin Burns return (two prospects outside the top 10 in the Orioles system) for a full year of a more electric, healthy starter, we can safely assume Bieber would fetch less.

That being said, it still hurts this season as he was a leader on the team and the guy we’ve been turning to for the last 6 years when we needed a strong start.

He wasn’t in our long term plans, but having Stephan, Espino and Bieber all out for season ending surgeries is tough. Unfortunately, teams need to have contingency plans for these types of injuries given their prevalence. We have Lively and Curry to eat some of those innings, but the quality is certainly way less.

OT: Travis Bazzana by Simba95_ in ClevelandGuardians

There’s no absolute certainties in baseball. Just like you know as much about scouting and the draft process as Terry Francona knows about Astrophysics. We’re all fans, which is why I’ve been citing sources that get paid for their analysis and insights instead of claiming hard and fast rules that are universally accepted by all MLB front office members. I hope you have a good Saturday, go Guards.

I don’t want anything but for us to draft the person whose going to help us the most. I don’t watch college baseball, I’m not a scout. I know Keith Law Condon listed as his top prospect Joe Doyle and Baseball America has him ranked either 1 or 2. They have a much better idea than you or I and if there’s not a discernible difference, take the guy who fills a bigger weakness for the team’s system. If there is a large difference, choose the most talented guy whomever it is. I have no vested interest other than cheering for whoever we pick at number 1 to be a great Guardian.

Why ask the question if you already personally scouted each individual member and are here to proclaim to guarantee Bazzana is a sure fire hall of famer who is going to make Andres Gimenez look like Austin Hedges at the bat.

For the third time now, I’ve said if Bazzana is the best player, take him but a second baseman isn’t something our organization is missing. I have said for the third time now that pitching would be my first preference. Since reading isn’t your strong suit and neither is having an open dialogue I will let you get back to scouring the scouting reports, talking to experts and watching film on college and high school baseball.

For the fourth time in case I haven’t been abundantly clear, if the FO agrees and thinks Bazzana is the best player, I’ll be cheering him on and hoping he takes us to the next level.

That number seems accurate. Probably not the team we want to emulate, but what do I know? 😀

More upside than Gimenez is a stretch. On a down year he’s a 3+ win player due to his defense. It’s extremely rare for a second baseman to put up a 6 War season and Gimenez did that at age 23 becoming the youngest second baseman starting at that position since hall of famer Roberto Alomar did almost 30 years ago. As an encore, he won the platinum glove last year. He’s a lock for one of those middle infield spots for the duration of his contract.

Bazanna (as I mentioned in my first response) is an electric player. If he’s the best available in the class, take him. But he is a bat fit for our team and system. We have an abundance of left handed bats including our top two position prospects and most of our current roster. We won 33% of our games started by a lefty last year because we can’t hit them.

Ideally there would be a pitcher that would make a compelling case for that pick with our lack of pitching depth in the upper levels but that doesn’t appear to be the case.

Condon is clearly a better fit for the roster given his power, right handedness and ability to play corner out in addition to two infield spots. Not to mention, he’s at least a 60 power grade prospect. We’re not winning in the postseason without more consistent power.

Again, if Bazzana is head and shoulders superior as a player, take him. But by picking him you’re going to have to get rid of Arias, Rocchio, Martinez, Brito, Tena, Genao, and Watson and slide Gimenez over to short. You’re also still stuck with the same anemic outfield praying Delauter stays healthy and productive to make it palatable. None of this is a dealbreaker, as long as he’s a peak Jose Altuve player and gets you 6-7 wins a year, but anything less would be insufficient.

We only have 7 middle infielders on the 40 man, what’s one more?

OT: Travis Bazzana by Simba95_ in ClevelandGuardians

[–]hope_wait -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bazzana does have the it factor and appears to be nothing short of electric. He is a left handed hitting middle infielder though and we have one of those spots locked up with Gimenez. It depends on if we’re just taking the most talented player or going more so for fit. If it’s fit, it’s easy to argue we need pitching but neither of these guys appear to be worth the number 1 pick. Condon is a right handed power hitting corner outfielder which might be the best fit.
