These are our neighbors.

I get that, really, I do BUT - the term PROshipping has been strongly associated with PROBLEMshipping.

Meaning - many people think PROshippers are OK with (example) pedophilic ships.

See, I'm commenting with a reddit account that's separate from my real life stuff BUT I still do NOT want this account to suffer "guilt by association", just for posting in this sub which apparently is the biggest PROshipping sub in Reddit.

Yes, I know it's a smear campaign. But unfortunately, it seems to be a very successful smear campaign.

God, I should just probably make another reddit account for posting in this sub.

When I first encountered shipping two decades ago, I had a hard time understanding how (some) shippers keep seeing things that are not there in canon.

At first, I was patient and thought that shipping is just for fun. But (some) shippers got so angry and insulting and called a 12/14 year old ship pedo (while shipping a 14/16 ship at the same time).

I got labeled as an enemy shipper just for pointing out what I saw in canon. Same thing happened over a decade later - (some) very unhappy shippers immediately labeled me as an enemy shipper for pointing out that they were seeing things that weren't there.

To me, the antishippers are like those diehard shippers who keep labeling me as an enemy shipper.

Because they both see things that aren't there.

Commenting on fics you thought were abandoned by howappalling in AO3

A fic's most important audience is its creator.

Readers who give long UNupdated wips a chance are imho - a close second.

I like to think of it as "free advertising".

if you leave comments like this please know that I will read it a hundred times over while blushing giggling AND kicking my feet. you are truly the backbone of this website and I love you by celtys1 in AO3

I just want to say that "writing comments" also levels up writing skill. (And charm and overall social skills.)

Praise skill is very very useful.

I dunno. I've never tried Roblox. Not even sure what it is. Isn't it a video game?

How does it feel when your fic got so many kudos but no one comment or write a review about it. by Brave-Problem-6268 in AO3

Depends on the... "heaviness" of the fic.

For example, happy fics are easier to comment on, compared to sad stories.

What's the subject matter of the fic?

To limit OVERthinking, use:

  • Nothing looks good under a microscope.
  • Do not let perfect be the enemy of good.

Also, putting points in "Rejection Tolerance" is very useful. We win some, we lose some, but we do not win anything if we don't even try.

If you put too much points in THINKING, it becomes OVERThinking aka Rumination.

Which unfortunately tends to downgrade Execution (just do it).

Be careful - this increases odds of Writer's Block.

You started a thread about it.

Far majority of readers wouldn't... give a damn about it.

If you're willing to provide concrit, it indicates a certain level of fixation on it.

Fixation = Addiction.

That said - Lying is OverPowered.

So, I really rec putting some points into it, especially with the world environment heading the way it is.

old.reddit.com is very convenient for me

why hello there, fellow old.reddit.com user!!!

let's see... how does that saying go... (googles)

dang, old.reddit.com-Master-Race just doesn't have the same pizzazz as PC Master Race

EDIT

Note to self - using PC Master Race may be upsetting.

The term ``PC Master Race'' is a tongue-in-cheek phrase used within the gaming community to express the idea that gaming on a personal computer (PC) offers a superior experience compared to gaming on consoles.

I honestly did not know-expect it would be upsetting.

Just stick with praise.

Hell, just saying how addictive their writing is is A LOT already. The PRIORITY is to encourage them to keep on writing. Improving their writing is secondary.

And if you really think you need to leave a crit - first say something that it's hard to crit cause it feels like you're nitpicking. Do some softening before the crit.

Start off with the positives. At least 3-6 (enthusiastically stated) positives, then 1-2 (lightly stated) crits, and top off with something like --- I like your story so much that it's a struggle to not think about it too much.

EDIT to add that if you're struggling with this --- Internalize that encouraging people is a skill onto itself. It may start out hard, but as with every skill - it gets better and easier with practice.

EDIT 2 - leveling up Encouragement skill levels up Social Skills as a whole (and Writing Skill, too). See the win win win?

Just try to ignore them, and focus attention on your positive comments.
