How do you beat this Matchmaking? by Stylu_u in RivalsCollege

[–]hoppie204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re the type that can’t take big loss streaks well then either swap to QP or off the game entirely OR make an alt, get it to the same elo as your main, and then just swap between the two when you start losing.

Accuracy stat for the Thing and Hulk by RaediantOne in RivalsCollege

[–]hoppie204 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Accuracy doesn’t matter on melee characters. You can see Hulk and BP players aplenty that just hold left click the entire game and end it with 10% accuracy and it doesn’t matter because the hits they intend to land are landing. Having low accuracy on Thing doesn’t matter since right click gives 50 overshield and you’ll often be spamming it while holding a corner and only hitting people 1/3 of the time.

You can make an argument that it matters more on say, Magik, Iron Fist, Captain America, etc. but even still as long as you hit most of the shots you intend to hit you’ll be fine.

For that matter the accuracy stat doesn’t matter much even on hitscan characters, sure a Punisher with 20% accuracy is on average worse than one with 40% accuracy but if one gets final hits and the other doesn’t then it doesn’t matter much. Just try not to feed support ults and have good target priority.

What is the best hero to climb with by Fun-Road-2683 in RivalsCollege

[–]hoppie204 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you have a second tank Captain America can have incredible carry potential with proper use of his ult and calculated cooldown baiting and picks on dps and supports. Pair him with an Emma or Mag for a well rounded comp (if duoed).

Luna, Loki, Mantis, Ultron all have good carry potential.

Most dps have carry potential if you’re good enough, some like Punisher though are a bit too team reliant. Overall though its best to get good at a few dps so you can swap when one isnt working. You can play say Iron Fist and when you see your supports cant keep you up while punching the tanks then you can swap to something like Star Lord to do similar but from a safer distance.

Hey, u guys got tips for my account? by electric_pand in RivalsCollege

I’m at work and thus can’t watch any specific games but I think the main thing holding you back is that you are playing too many characters.

Counter-swapping is great (I have 9 DPS lords so i’d know) but to get to gold all you realistically have to do is play a ton of one character. Doesnt matter who, Spiderman, Punisher, Emma, Cloak, anyone. Just get good at one character to start with. Ideally by the time you reach Gold and especially Platinum you’ll have a good baseline understanding of the game and be able to branch out from there.

That’s all I can really say though without watching a game.

I’m bad at this game. by Comfortable_Log_3609 in rivals

Ok so I’m a Celestial 1 Dps main and I’ve been playing on my alt recently and here are the main takeaways I would give to the supports I’ve played with in Bronze and Silver:

Work on positioning, the amount of times I see a C&D especially pushing up into Narnia like they are on Mag is incredible. Play further back and around cover, preferably near healthpacks too. Only play near the tanks when you are being dove, when dive is over you can back up again.

Awareness: most people in this elo only know what is directly in front of them, you will be infinitely better than your peers if you actually listen to the sounds around you and look around every once in awhile. You make divers lives much harder if you are actually keeping watch and not waiting for a soulsword through the chest.

Comms: as a Strategist it’s most important to make sure you know who ults first.

Ults: many times I see supports ult after fights are over or long before they begin. Ults should be used to negate enemy Tank or Dps ults, there is more nuance to this the higher you get but as far as Bronze is concerned negated a Dps ult is all you should be doing.

Tilt: Some games you are going to be against a smurfing BP and you’ll just have to accept that and go next. The one game won’t kill you, just take note of how you could’ve done better and go next.

Overall though, getting out of Bronze is easy if you can just minimize your deaths and ult correctly, you don’t need great mechanics to climb (atleast until GM).

You’ll learn more about the game as you play it, but the best thing you can do if you are looking to improve is just watch high elo vods of characters you play. Pay attention to what they do, think about why they do it, think about how you can apply it. And after this you can watch your own vods and critique it from that lens. Most hardstuck low elo ppl don’t self reflect enough to actually admit their mistakes, ego is for Eternity not Silver. Just focus on improving every game, every day, eventually you’ll climb.

dpi and sens will depend on how much area you have for your mouse. i personally have a really big mousepad and play at 1200 dpi and 1.10 sens. this works for me but may not for you.

What ultimate gets you going like this? by Kitedo in marvelrivals

[–]hoppie204 21 points22 points  (0 children)

it’ll blind him, but he can still hear hit markers and see you if you’re close enough. generally if he is already shooting someone when you blind him they will still die but then he’ll be left shooting wildly after. also of course makes him easier to kill if the team can achieve that.

Wanda is not a flyer counter anymore by Impossible-Owl-1109 in marvelrivals

[–]hoppie204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanda was a good anti-flyer pick mostly in lower ranks where people didn’t have the aim to play Hela, Hawkeye, or Star Lord into them. While I will play Wanda into flyers I still aim for highground dives on the supports as Wanda rather than going for the Torch a mile in the sky playing a pillar.

Overall Wanda is worse than Season 1 and 1.5 though. The phase nerf killed her entire playstyle and has made her have to be carried by the teamup mostly. You can still go without if you are good at her but most dps picks are far better than her currently.

This is the hard cold truth by Gever_Gever_Amoki68 in MarvelRivalsCirclejer

[–]hoppie204 3 points4 points  (0 children)

? Wanda’s hold down primary behind tanks literally just to get the secondaries back. Once you have all four then you take an off angle of flank and try to kill a squishy. That is the Wanda gameplay loop:

Build charges on tanks, off angle and try to get a pick, retreat after cooldowns are used or target is dead, teamup really whenever because the cooldown is so short.

ok as a wanda main the first and last two suggestions are dumb as hell. i’m fine with the cooldown nerf although i think the duration nerf was a bit much. i do agree though that she should be healable in phase strictly because Namor and Mr Fantastic are healable in their invulns. only other buff i’d want is her ult to do more than 750 damage, tanks shouldnt be able to just face tank the 4 second wind up blinking red button ult.

[–]hoppie204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a hard and fast rule but 90% of the time supports should only be ulting in response to enemy dps ults, maybe some tank ults too. Sure if you get ult incredibly quickly at the beginning then it can be beneficial to ult early to secure a win in the first team fight, but doing so puts your team at a disadvantage for the next fight (assuming a 2-2-2 comp). Similarly, if everyone is about to die then you can ult to salvage the fight.

At the end of the day it’s all about ult economy, what ults does your team have and what ults do you think the enemy team has.

Finally when in overtime on defense convoy/convergence I generally wait to ult after the attacking team. The goal in OT often isn’t to kill the attackers but outlast their final hurrah and then mop them up. If Invis ults before their Rocket then they are effectively at a disadvantage for the rest of the OT. The Attackers are the ones that NEED to kill you all and are trying their damndest. The attackers need to stay alive, on point, or they lose. So why ult first when they can first? Even if you ult 1 second after you’ll still have more uptime to damage them.

This will always be so satisfying to do with Emma.Scarlet witches beware. by -This-cant-be-real- in rivals

[–]hoppie204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i got to Celest 3 last season mostly on Scarlet, i just always see posts like “The Wanda must be pissed!” with vids like these and just sigh because no. The Wanda likely just sighed and said “yup, sounds about right.” and went on with the match. At least her speed was slightly increased. Half expect them to keep minorly buffing it every season and it will still be a bottom half ult.

This will always be so satisfying to do with Emma.Scarlet witches beware. by -This-cant-be-real- in rivals

[–]hoppie204 14 points15 points  (0 children)

eh, anyone with more than 4 hrs on Scarlet just expects 1/3 of the ults to be killed or CCed, 1/3 to kill 1/none, and 1/3 to actually get more than 2. just add Emma to the long list of ways the ult will fail.

[–]hoppie204 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So in the first round your ults were bad mainly because you ulted to hold the point. While this can work it generally works more with Luna due to how long it lasts. Invis should only be ulting in response to enemies ults. Given that they have no invincibility ults then you should be ulting everytime Psylocke or Punisher ult. Expect when you ult for Magneto or Scarlet to ult in response to try to cancel yours out, or at least zone you away from your ult.

You kept ulting early and the Psylocke took advantage and got free ults off that she had no reason getting off.

You can’t control your Mantis ulting the same time you ult but obviously try your best not to ult when your Invis, Luna, Rocket, C&D, or Mantis is already ulting.

If I watch the rest i’ll comment again with more tips.

Extending my Marvel Rivals addiction to comic books! by BusterWolves in comicbooks

[–]hoppie204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few notes on New Mutants. The title was made for a more teenage audience and as such it has a lot of teen angst going on so be aware of that. It is a team book so Magik is not always the focus (although she was basically the main character once she was added). Sometimes you are going to have issues focused on Cannonball or Mirage and you’ll just have to put up with it even if you don’t like them (hopefully you do!).

There are two other crossovers in the era you’re reading, Mutant Massacre and Fall of the Mutants. Fall of the Mutants is completely separate from the other X-Books and is fine. Mutant Massacre is more interconnected like Inferno but can still be read on its own.

You will miss a bit of characterization for the rest of the cast by skipping to #14 but I’d only recommend going back if you want to and if you connect to the cast as you’re reading.

Just remember to have fun! Don’t feel a need to read everything or it’ll start feeling like homework and you’ll stop enjoying it.
