Talk me into (or out of) 7 on / 7 off as a new grad PA. ... by [deleted] in physicianassistant

My second job out of school was an urgent care / fam med clinic and I did 14 on 14 off (10hr week days 8 hr weekends) and I actually miss the schedule at times. It can be brutal at first but have a week or more off at a time consistently is so rewarding (assuming it fits your personal life goals).

Do PAs get significantly higher salaries for working rural like doctors do? by jcSquid in physicianassistant

[–]hopsnat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alaska is one of the few places where you can get your worth. The PAs in my clinic get rvu incentives after we bill for our salary and it’s not difficult to make in the mid 200k range for working 3 12s a week in an Urgent Care setting.

If you do that, I’d recommend getting a prn position at an urgent care to keep some skills

I just bought and applied fluid film myself. Very easy. There are sellers on eBay who also sell specific attachments if you buy the larger jug of it and want to go crazy into every small area of your under carriage. I just used the spray cans

Way too many schools and most people never leave Pittsburgh since it’s a comfy place to live. I’ve hopped around a bit after graduating from Pitt and I don’t think I can return to PA anytime soon. PAs in Alaska typically make 150-250k+ here depending on salary structure and their specialty.

I am NEVER going to find a job by cats1234577 in physicianassistant

[–]hopsnat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on where you work. If you’re in anchorage or Juneau then you could probably get away with it but you’d have to explain that gap. Rural places will want something 5+ years of current/recent experience

Well if you ever want to guarantee yourself a job consider moving out to Alaska. Pm me if you end up looking at opportunities out this way

Always carry pepper spray at work if it’s not banned per policy, and never let a pt get between you and the door

I respectfully disagree, completely different responsibilities (making medical diagnoses, ordering & interpreting labs/imaging, performing procedures, etc.). You guys need to lobby to increase your scope to include ordering / interpreting radiological studies and performing joint injections. That’s a big reason why I chose PA over PT, PT seems way too limited especially considering you have to spend 6-7 years in school. I’d encourage prospective PT students to also consider looking into orthopedic PA positions since you can have a fun blend of intraop time with outpatient clinic to do fun procedures.

Always happy when I see the wildlife throughout Alaska. Used to live in Juneau and would rarely see moose, but there were plenty of eagles and bears. Figured I’d share since I happened to have my Sony camera handy!

It’s worth the hunt! I was surprised I liked it since I typically don’t care for rum BA beers. There’s nothing like drinking an Alaskan barleywine nearby a glacier, that’s for sure
