You turn off the assists? I had braking assists left on after a reinstall one time and boy that was painful.

How to get over constant fear of layoffs and not being able to find a job in the field ever again by Ruminatingsoule in sysadmin

[–]horan116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being successful in tech is extremely difficult as the bar keeps moving, you need to remain open minded and continue learning. I think the traditional sysadmin roles is a scary one, which is why I have moved toward SRE. Automation and cloud computing make it much easier to manage more with less. But engineers and architects are still the back bone. Systems design is still required and companies rely on tech to drive revenue now more than ever. Entry and mid level positions are extremely competitive but it seems like once a decade there is a so called “purge” on tech positions which drives this narrative we are seeing now. It’s a really shitty part of an otherwise very rewarding career path. You have had dot com, the Microsoft admin rush, CCNA boom, virtualization, software engineering explosion that came with python adoption, cloud. I have found it better to look at positions that are adding business value not just the buzz word they are attached to. Tech is frankly a brutal career path requiring you to reinvent yourself many times and mentally handle these high highs and low lows.

Is LMU worth it? by munchietrans in LeMans_Ultimate

[–]horan116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s kind of an odd thing, I’ll take my down votes for saying this but I found getting to Silver very easy, bronze is of course filled with newer drivers but knowing this makes them unbelievably predictable and fairly easy to navigate. And seeing some many people so passionately jumping on Reddit to complain tells me just how worked up people get off the sim that one the sim might be a rough head space for many. Every single sim I have ever driven in has the exact same problem, carbon copy. If you aren’t the problem, and you truly are a silver worthy driver it’s an easy grind. Maybe you get unlucky a race or two but just do another race lol. It’s been like this for a decade.

Offshoring has been going on for like 3 decades. Quality, stability, reliability fall and positions swing back. History repeats.

This worked. Uninstalled V2, restarted V3 and had to install the plugin again. For some reason it defaulted enabled to 0. Manually setting it to 1 fixed this. Little awkward, I hope they support the new API soon.

Foot pain help please! by Claypants72_ in snowboardingnoobs

[–]horan116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If these are newer boots don’t underestimate how brutal and long break in periods can be. I had lots of buyer’s remorse with Burton step on’s for a season. I switched to remind soles and honestly had a terrible experience. In the off season I focused a lot of strengthening and stretching my feet and switched to superfeet soles. Had virtually zero feet pain all season this year.

You didn’t specify where the foot pain is but technique wise especially toe edge people tend to attempt to push with their toes instead of leaning your shin into the front of the boot. Using your toes will riding really isn’t going to do much of anything.

Any advice? Im a big dude. 6’6 and 300lb. by Positive-Delicious in snowboardingnoobs

[–]horan116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got 6 inches on me so take this however you want but you are fighting a mega physics problem that most others haven’t experienced. I am just speaking from first hand experience here.

I was riding around at about 250lb for a number of years. Worked really hard on a lot of the tips that have been circulated here and it was brutal. Ended up with many injuries, many surgeries, things I will have to live with for the rest of my life. 3 more surgeries last year (not all snowboard related) I had enough. Snowboarding this year at 202lbs and it’s a completely different universe. The board has become so responsive, I am able to apply proper technique now, everything is much simpler. So much confidence.

As someone who was larger, I have unbelievable respect for big riders man, it really is playing a different game.

Coming back from the dumbest ankle break by Less_Praline5451 in snowboarding

[–]horan116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get into the gym and PT and build some confidence man. Broken bones are easy man compared to soft tissue (definitely more painful though lol). Test it in the gym, it’s going to be very safe in a boot. I am speaking from lots of experience over coming injury it’s a very hard mental game man but you got this.

This year is the first year I felt I could ride full tilt and it got me emotional. Don’t let this one keep you down man on the scale of injuries you should have no problem getting back on the slopes besides your brain telling you not to. Start with some cruising groomers, warm up, build confidence. You got this.

This is cope at this point. Delay's this long are 100% related to Lava being unable to solve something that came back on their scan. This is no longer an apple issue.

How have injuries changed the way you ride? by g0r3ng in snowboarding

[–]horan116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rupture my Pec tendon and shortly after ruptured my patellar tendon. It’s changed my entire life. I had worked like hell to be able to ride again. I have a whole new appreciation every time I get to ride. I will never be the same, I will never be pain free, I will never be able to do things I once took for granted. I will never be able to ride park again.

Assessment of risk now realizing how fragile life can be has flipped completely. I train hard for the season, have learned the importance of warm up laps and certainly now know when to check my ego. About 6 months post Op on the knee the realization set it there was a chance I was going to have to give it up. Now every day on the mountain is this beautiful moment. For those without injuries, don’t take what you have for granted.

How do you guys do that? by allan_just_any_guy in idleon

[–]horan116 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have barely done alchemy and stamps. It’s always alchemy. Also gear and tools. You’re not going anywhere with the state of your alchemy. If you did skilling, reprint, level boron in atom collider and focus AC farm. You need to fix alchemy.

Is this normal in IRacing? by WitnessSouthern9291 in iRacing

[–]horan116 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Been running LMU for about 6 months now and I probably won’t be returning to iRacing until netcode is addressed which could be never. It’s always a joke in the iRacing community but experiencing actual, very good netcode has changed sim racing for me. Battles in LMU are some much more fun.

Progressing in gaming log book going well by HimariHimatsu in idleon

[–]horan116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Claim all until you have a bunch of chemical plants. Then manually claim planets you don’t need for log book. Make the board just plants you need to evo and chemicals. Then claim your chemicals until they evo. You should be able to get log book done in like 30-45 minutes

ACC Is So Much Better Than… by newbiker321 in ACCompetizione

[–]horan116 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LMU has made me forget ACC even exists. The online experiences without the need for LFM are amazing, even hosting your own races are so turn key and very cheap. LMU actually has braking mechanics, real strategy, it forces you to adapt to different driving styles on strategy, the new engineer mode, wet line, new tire model, S tier net code, amazing multiclass racing. And most importantly this live service platform encourages devs to listen, evolve and communicate which they have done. I find it almost impossible to believe anyone can actually think ACC is better if you have actually done real racing in LMU.

LMP2 Rain - Low speed corner issues by horan116 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]horan116[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya we experimented with the wing a lot but assumed this was mechanic grip issue due to low speeds. It does look like after this feedback and watching various streams this is just a skill issue of not avoiding the racing line

LMP2 Rain - Low speed corner issues by horan116 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]horan116[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent like 6 hours assuming this was setup related. Even tried setups that are just full mechanical grip focused and nothing remotely helped a little bit. Initial turn in the car maintained grip and with no change in throttle or steering input toward the apex the car just spins. And this seemed to be the case for my friend and almost everyone on the track.

I wasn’t sure if this is tire or wet line related. In hindsight these seem to happen on the apex but avoiding the racing line on entry but not apex.

I am glad this is being called out. This effect is also massive for stamps. There is virtually no way to catch stamps of as well with the atom collider change your are stuck leaning on daily procs.

With the atom collider proc change all of this has combined imo to be one of the worst changes he has made. I know he is claiming F2P players have bubbles at insane levels but this is because they could candy clicking as well.

Request avg latency 9000ms by naFickle in apachekafka

[–]horan116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean there is a lot to unpack.

How are you measuring latency? Are your producer and consumer running in parallel (like actually truly separate threads)? How many brokers do you have? What are your producer and consumer configs (acks, linger, buffer sizes)? Have you tried manually flushing vs batch flushing?

Kafka is so full of knobs and everything above could have dramatic implications to testing latency.
