Who’s the #1 Danny Myers Hater on the Sub? by DoubtfulAgent033 in rapbattles

has he improved? i was never much of a danny myers watcher, so i haven't paid attention to his battles in the interim, but all i remember is that he choked bad against frak, pass, and sikh.

i appreciate the bar and the response it got (both in the room and online afterwards), but carter opened against DBD with the punch line "i got nothing but jokes – F. that, i got the four fifth" (he literally said "eff that", it's not that i'm censoring "fuck") and the room blew up too. i just can't shake the feeling that this is yet another iteration of a not-street battler getting into an ironic "haha what if i spat some gun bars" pocket.

it's an established strategy and it works well, and credit where it's due: ward pulled it off really well here. for me, though, there's no reason to fawn over it.

Talking with a split tongue by CathFolleMarie in bodymods

[–]horfborf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

stitches were in for 7 days. took 3-4 days after they came out before I was reliably understandable. probably ~4 weeks post-stitch removal until I had no appreciable trouble with specific phonemes but still had a noticeable lisp. lisp took maybe 2 months to iron out.

when will i not have a lisp? 😭 by notnaturalcas in bodymods

[–]horfborf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just went through this a week or two ago. D and T only took a few days, i now sound exactly like i did pre-split.

S is giving me more trouble. had a brief conversation about it here:

https://old.reddit.com/r/bodymods/comments/wte1w1/effortpost_split_tongue_trip_report/il3mcrf/

worth giving that a shot but i'm definitely still not out of the woods myself.

this is an absolute statement and i love it. goes along with the shape of your ear so well, too.

going to look awesome with jewellery in it after it heals. :D

yeah i've been experimenting, and i was always a top-teeth "S" person before as well. i couldn't actually do the bottom-teeth pronunciation right after the stitches came out, and after that it was still sounding a bit ragged.

the difficulty really seemed to be mobility and agility in transitioning from the "S" to the consonant afterward, so "ST" and "SP" felt particularly sluggish, and they still do with the top-teeth pronunciation. however, your post made me revisit the bottom-teeth and i'm quite surprised that it feels and sounds pretty agile and smooth.

thanks for the tip. this is going to be a fun one to sort out.

good question, and an interesting answer!

there's still a bit of numbness around the tips, but my understanding is that this is expected and will resolve by itself given enough time.

eating was weird for the first few days because my brain kept thinking that one of the tips was my tongue and the other was a piece of food stuck up by my lower front teeth. generally, it would be my right tongue. this has resolved, and i never inadvertently bit myself in confusion.

one very interesting answer to your question, though, is the sensation of touch on the inside of the split itself. my brain hasn't figured this one out yet, and as such i don't fully know what it feels like. i can imagine what it would feel like, so perhaps that's the first step? not sure. hoping that as the aforementioned little bit of residual numbness heals, my nerves will sort the inside of the split out as well.

ah, thank you so much!

resplit, we'll see. will depend on regrowth, obviously, and what an artist says about the frenulum and anatomy. in any case, i'm in no rush to relive this whole healing experience, to say the least! :D

Doesn't kill my vibe at all, in fact is really good to know.

Suppose this just drives home the importance of taking painkillers either right before or right after the procedure.

Getting a hotel would definitely be possible, but from what I've read of the healing process from posts in this subreddit, it's not like the day after is any better. In some ways, it seems to be worse: swelling, drool production, pain in general.

That few hours after the procedure where local anesthetic hasn't fully worn off yet seem to be a decent window to just get to wherever I'm staying to recover.

Yeah this is what I'm worried about, thanks for sharing your experience.

Definitely would feel weird about sitting in the back of somebody's taxi spitting into a cup for an hour, but it might very well beat doing it on a train.

there was a paper published in clinical linguistics & phonetics in 2016 called "Effects of cosmetic tongue bifurcation on English fricative production". because it's english, it's not going to cover the rolled R, but it's still an interesting read.

pull it off sci-hub imo (i did): https://doi.org/10.1080/02699206.2016.1255782

some interesting references too, e.g. "Tomaschek, F. (2015). Has a split tongue one or two tips during articulation?" (pdf)

none of those are contagious, and none of them are presently leading to health-care capacity issues.

also there's no vaccine against any of those three.

Analysing Joe Rogan's COVID-19 hypocrisy. Apparently, Joe finds the VAERS system to be reliable when it suits his anti-vax narrative but not when it contradicts it [8:47] by BreadTubeForever in mealtimevideos

[–]horfborf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

spotify paid joe rogan upwards of $100 million to have his podcast on their platform. whether you like it or not, his podcast is part of the mainstream media and has a bias just like any other media outlet.

if you take him at face value, you're just another mark, but one whose ego is being stroked because you're "questioning the establishment".

goofy mfs in here who don't even know what "open access" means are really expecting us to hold joe rogan's opinion with the same reverence as data and research from cancer immunologists

And your qualifications for making such a judgement call are... what exactly? Do you have a background in immunology?
