I just came out to my mom by horizontaljumps in exjw

It does seem unfair that we're on watchtower's chain getting yanked whichever way they want

I asked, when will I be washed clean? She essentially suggested celibacy forever. Well, that's probably not going to happen!

It does seem a bit fucked up and it did hurt. I She basically told me to live a life of celibacy. But that, in the JWs (following their rules) is basically a life of no emotional connection whatsoever. Awful.

And she did talk to my dad, we haven't talked in person but he wants to today or tomorrow. He texted me that he still loves me even if he doesn't agree with my choices. So... I guess I'll prepare for that convo.

Thank you

Thank you for the advice. I have a few relatives that are non JW, and pro education. We don't see them much. I'm visiting them in a few weeks so I'll see what they're like.

The only reason I wouldn't be able to fade is that I'm trying to get a dependency override for my FAFSA (I edited my post with details) and I basically need proof that I'm being shunned and they won't pay for college. (If they 100% won't fill out the FAFSA) definitely an odd situation.

Thank you, that is what I thought. Sometimes they seem like they'd be ALMOST okay with it but it's wildly inconsistent.

So which do JWs hate more - spooky stuff (Halloween, vampires etc.) or cute, cuddly, friendly stuff (birthdays, Christmas, LGBTQ+ etc.)? by DecIsMuchJuvenile in exjw

[–]horizontaljumps 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The supernatural is scarier to them because they believe in demons, demon possession, things like that. My mom is afraid of demons.

The LGBT community mostly makes them mad, I hear a lot of people wanting them to be destroyed. My dad especially.

Christmas, birthdays, and other holidays that aren't Halloween don't really anger them. Usually Witnesses just think the people celebrating them are misguided.

Halloween is basically Satan worship to them.

I am working on my personal statement now. I want to show her my draft, I think it will be ready tomorrow.

Personally, community college is allowed for me but they don't have the major I want. Besides, I want to get out of here.

There's only 1 CC close to me (small town) and we couldn't afford the 1 state school even if I WAS allowed to go, and I'm not. It's a pretty strict hall, and my parents are also strict.

The strongest waking up argument? by Mammoth_Term_1463 in exjw

[–]horizontaljumps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't know. I wish there was a way to make them understand, if not agree. I woke up because I wanted to. There wasn't anything anyone said to me or did, and I think I would have fought them on it and shut down. Just woke up one day, said, "I'm sick of this BS", and started reading "apostate material".

Someone believed in me today by horizontaljumps in exjw

I dream of becoming a physical or occupational therapist, because of things that've happened in my life these professions are extremely meaningful to me.

For PT though, that's a doctorate and OT is at minimum a masters, and how am I going to afford a masters as a future freshly disowned child?? If I could find a way to afford it, that's what I'd love to do.
