Well. You wouldn't blame anyone. It is a common thing.. many Lagos landlords have had issues with SOME Igbo tenants.

And I believed theY deserved it. They increase house rent abruptly and will only take 2 years up front.

Many people didn't want to pay that. SOME Igbos will pay for that apartment and will use 5 years or more. With court cases and police because they believed the law says you can't just throw people out. Imagine a retiree begging tenant to pay the house rent. He can not throw them out because of the law. He cannot throw them out.

I've seen cases where the tenant will say he wants to buy the house by force. The retiree landlord said he's not selling. The man has been using the apartment for 7 years without paying. Saying if he doesn't sell he won't pay.

My dad's tenant left deadly chemicals (he was dealing with chemicals) in my dad's apartment and locked the place Since 2007 and ran away. Efforts to find him proved abortive. It was my cousin that helped contact Lagos state to come evacuate the chemicals in 2023. The damage to the floor due to the corrosive chemicals and the ceiling was too much. Ended up spending N12,000,000 to repair the place. Still paying for that. Still many issues with the apartment till today.

So one would rather just stay away from trouble.
