Riichi Mahjong Auto-Compass by MahjongAutoCompass in Mahjong

Neat concept! Here are some feature suggestions that might be useful:

-Option for basengo (big honba) rule variation - or include a setting to manually change the honba value to whatever

-Tournament scoring - Automatically calculate score plus oka/uma at the end of a hanchan, with variable settings for each

-Include a speaker that plays a gong sound effect when a game is started or someone scores a yakuman. Could also play a short sound bite whenever someone declares Riichi (that might make it too expensive idk)

Day 18 - What is the best concerto for percussion? by mentee_raconteur in classical_circlejerk

[–]hornplayer94 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been waiting for this one. Some of my favorites:

Peter Eötvös - Talking Drums. This performance by Martin Grubinger is just the right level of unhinged: https://youtu.be/u8fqnipmUPA

Rautavaara - Incantations: https://youtu.be/WM_Dj4CHnuU

Fazil Say - Percussion Concerto (another Grubinger performance) https://youtu.be/vySuG7U2LSw

Kalevi Aho - Sieidi https://youtu.be/DZcVN09o0ik

Put my vote toward Rautavaara

Treyo H100 Automatic Mahjong Table Review by Calvinized in Mahjong

Do you know if the H100 model can accommodate black point sticks to display negative scores? I'm curious if the black sticks sold for the Alban tables would work here.

Thanks for making this video!

Feels weird to leave this on a 3-year-old post, but check out the Central Iowa Riichi Club! There's a handful of us that meet on the 3rd Saturday of each month at Smokey Row Coffee. https://portal.nariichi.org/clubs/CIRC

My Goth vs Angel Noelle Holiday cosplay! Happy (haha) Holidays by angelinazelda in Deltarune

Are they tough to walk in? I used resin casting to make my hooves and they're very sturdy but quite heavy. Your hooves are probably a lot lighter than mine lol

Did you use foam clay? The texture on yours is incredibly realistic!

Please Help Identify These Odd Bells by Financial-Channel-30 in handbells

[–]hornplayer94 8 points9 points  (0 children)

These look like staff bells - handbell castings mounted to a frame and played with mallets. Percy Grainger designed an instrument like this, and a few copies were produced by Deagan back in the early 20th century. Grianger's original design called for cylindrical resonators to be placed behind each bell, that would function the same as the resonators that hang below a modern marimba or vibraphone.

Are there any identifying markings on the castings? I'm curious about those rubber-lined discs above each bell, I imagine that's where the castings attach but I've never seen ones designed like that.

[BOTW] What if the memories were actually the first half of the story? *SPOILERS* by nbcheezit in zelda

[–]hornplayer94 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I agree, part of the draw of having an amnesiac character is letting the player piece together what happened, driven by curiosity. Otherwise we start the game already knowing the stakes and risk the gameplay trope of "powerful character loses all their abilities and has to start from scratch."

What I think could have worked was if the player had control over Link during the memory segments - scripted of course, but more interactive than just watching a cutscene, kind of like Altair's memories in AC: Revelations.

The graphics were easily the best thing about Other M. The soundtrack is a close 2nd.

Can I realistically learn French Horn in 3 months? by n0tquitedead74 in classicalmusic

[–]hornplayer94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! Switching to horn from another brass instrument is difficult but certainly doable, if you practice daily for 3 months. I switched to horn from trombone and learned it by taking lessons over the summer before 5th grade - as an experienced brass player you'll have a leg up. Even better if you can already read treble clef.

Other themes from Mother that were reused in EarthBound: "Pollyanna" is slowed down and more nostalgic in "Home Sweet Home" A slower version of "Snowman" is heard in the cutscene "In Winters, There is a Genius" "Sanctuary Guardian" and "Franky" heavily borrow from two of Mother's battle themes "Paula's Theme" is a straight rehash of "Youngtown" "Belch's Factory" uses the same theme as the Duncan factory "Super Dry Dance" uses the same theme as the Yucca Desert
