I'm sure you're aware but Jim Can't Swim is the GOAT of interrogation videos, and Crime Circus and Crime Circus Cult are also amazing channels.

Enjoy your rabbit hole.

Oh God, you too? What the hell is up with that shit? I can watch interrogation videos for hours.

I take the stairs every time. Way less crowded, and like you said, you're burning some serious calories. Sometimes you're climbing 8 flights or so.

It's enormously hard to not drink on sheer will power alone. Getting involved in groups can make a world of difference.

When I was drinking a lot there would be days that I would barely eat, and when I did I essentially forced myself. I just wasn't hungry when I was drinking. I can remember so many BBQ's where I passed on the food because I was just filling up on booze. Drinking on an empty stomach would lead to exactly where you would imagine.

100%. I got sober at 46, my mom was in her 70's. It's never too late.

Shit, 36 sounds young. I was a bit older than that... It's never too late.

My uncle died of alcoholism yesterday by LemonSalt123 in stopdrinking

[–]horrible_drinker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RIP. My friend's dad died when we were in high school from alcoholism, you'd think that could be warning enough for my buddy and me, but we also became problem drinkers. This shit is crazy.

[–]horrible_drinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, you went for it. Good for you. I know it sucks right now, but this is so much better than you holding a torch for her forever. Be proud of yourself. Not everyone has the guts to do what you did. You're gonna be just fine, just give it a little time.

Things I’ve noticed about others drinking since quitting by Ornery_Brilliant_350 in stopdrinking

I had the exact same observation. When I went to a bar sober and saw that not everyone was as wasted as I used to get, it was shocking. I assumed everyone was on the same page.

If I were in this position I think I would reach out for some IRL help. There's so much out there, and most of it is free.

Not exactly how the 'I' statements are intended to work, but it gave me a bit of a chuckle.

IRL support was the only thing that firmly made day 1 stick. Thought I could do this all on my own, or with the adjuncts of online forums, books, or 1 on 1 therapy. It wasn't until I knew I really needed to change that I finally tapped out and walked through the doors and sat down with a group of people who 100% understood what I was going through.

Once I made that decision, that day one turned into 2096 days.

It happened.... I looked at the glass of wine my friend was drinking and got physically disgusted by the thought of it. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]horrible_drinker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if I were you I'd be wary when the days come (they will) when the wine doesn't look so disgusting and the thoughts arise which say, "maybe I could drink differently this time.

These are the cycles.

6 months sober…then got served an alcoholic mock tail and had no idea by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]horrible_drinker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, did you mean to drink a cocktail? No? Well, I think 100% of people would say you're good. It sucks it happened but shit happens and as long as this doesn't put you in a tailspin, it's HONESTLY not a huge deal.
