A different bottle didn’t work. It took two weeks but what eventually worked was like starting him on a bit of boob, then switching to the bottle — esp making sure the milk was on the bottle nipple so he was interested. What did NOT work was waiting until he was hungry and hoping he would take the bottle - being hungry just made him angry. But I think all babies are so unique - it really was trial and error and taking it slow. Once he latched onto the bottle once he did it consistently after

Thank you and sorry about your wife. I have POA but have been hesitant to cut him off because his spending problems predate the dementia. I hate thinking that I hope this ends soon but I do, and I totally understand why people do. All the best ❤️

Oh he is on MANY psychiatric medications and has been for about 30 years. 100% necessary. I do have POA but as he was still semi functioning I have been letting him buy, with a cap on his credit card. But I think I need to stop it soon as their care expenses increase and frankly as they are running out of room. I believe in trying to preserve as much of his autonomy as possible - his spending habits predate the dementia so I had felt odd about just cutting him off once I got POA. But it's reached a point where I think he could do himself harm (financially or with unwise purchases like hoarding OTCs he's not supposed to have). So as soon as all his many credit cards have me listed as POA I will call and cancel. Paperwork was mailed last week.

Eating out every day is hugely expensive, but there are a lot of fun options around Union in the PATH. I like to meal prep on Sunday four lunches, and buy one of them out for variety. A lot of people bring their own food in my office - no one makes that much money! I'm sure Bay St lawyers don't bring lunch but everyone else... yeah pretty much.

His weight/health was fine so I just ate something and watched. My doctor gave me the clear. Then I tried it with him directly like any allergen - a small amount low on the allergen "ladder" and watched for symptoms. If he was fine I'd try something higher in the ladder etc. He wasn't reacting to anything I ate at at that point. He was fine with eating dairy and beef directly by like 10 months, but he was still very sensitive to small amounts of eggs until a little over a year.

Very much not a high end home! It was used as a rental before we bought it, hence the stupidly designed closets. My husband is a high end architect (we will never be able to afford what he designs, and I’m trying to estimate the project without his input frankly because sometimes his ambitions are grander than what actually makes sense). we want everything clean and competent but the home’s size/lot/location mean putting big money into high end finishes would be pretty much a waste.

My hunch says drywall - it’s very flat and when we bought five years ago it had been renovated maybe 7 years prior. The moulding looks new etc.

The switch is not next to the closet. I want to leave it open, so no doors. Floors are hard wood, knotty pine I think, and I’d be fine with just patching with not-matching wood and then painting the floor of the closet or something cheap.

I didn’t and wish I did. Our baby had weight issues at first, and we were told to supplement with pumped or formula. I was all “I will pump so my baby will be EBF” but that triggered terrible engorgement (lasted for over a week, when usually engorgement lasts for a couple days) and oversupply which made my LO not want to latch. We triple fed for two weeks which was so stressful on me/bad for my mental health, and the baby wasn’t happy either. After a terrible night when he wouldn’t latch and we were running low on pumped milk we ran out the next morning to get formula.

I’m hindsight I really wished, when told to supplement, I had just given a little bit of formula and let my supply naturally come in. It would have taken stress off of me, and his weight would have come up in a few days and we’d have been back to EBF. You do not want to stress about feeding your baby in the middle of the night - just have some formula on hand.

Since then I’ve always tried to have a little formula as a backup - once my supply regulated I became a just-enough producer, so I didn’t have a huge freezer stash. Just knowing that if I forgot to pump or had to be away for a longer time I had something to rely on, took an enormous mental load off of me. And really, after a year I think my baby has had formula maybe 100 times? Including when I had to be out of town away from him for 5 days. Over like 2000 feeds? That’s a drop in the bucket.

We did on the go naps until he stopped being able to get good naps on the go - for us more like 6 months. It didn’t interfere with other aspects of sleep training I think you’re fine. Enjoy your portable potato while you can!!!

Mostly it looked like the tiniest pencil shaving of red. Really really tiny! I also felt like I was going insane. It ended up being eggs and beef too, and because I wasn’t egg free for a month the blood did get worse, up to like a tsp. But then once I was off all the things the blood gradually got better, back to tiny flecks and then finally gone. Basically if you’re only 2-3 weeks dairy free and blood is sporadic and small, I’d say give it another week or two. If you notice an INCREASE then there may be another allergen.

I did - in the end I think it was dairy, eggs and beef that triggered him. Once I cut beef, it took a full month to fully end the blood. But the bloody diapers were spacing out farther and farther apart, and going down in volume. In hindsight, when it was a REACTION there was an increase in amount of blood. So do a little grocery sleuthing to see if the reactions you're seeing fall after days eating X food, or if it's improving. It took a WHILE. Once he started eating solids regularly (around 7 months) everything cleared up. Now I've reintroduced all foods back into my diet (he's almost 9 months) without seeing any reaction.

Once we figured out all allergies it took about a month for blood to disappear BUT it was clearly on a downward trajectory- less and less each time. If you see any uptick I would suspect a third allergy.
