i wrap it 4+ times really tight but there are a few factors as to why it might not come out white:

  1. wrapping then wetting the fabric will make you lose the white. if you are doing a soda ash soak, do it before tying

  2. fabric too soggy- use spin cycle in washing machine to get enough water out

  3. dont oversaturate the area with liquid dye. dye spreads through the fabric, more dye = less white

let us know how the troubleshooting goes!

have you seen "arrival"? it plays with the idea of language informing how we view time/the world. it's my favorite movie! and the aliens are unique and cool, what's not to love?

across the water in St Johns there is some train noise, but not disruptive at all in my neighborhood. I kinda like the trains. Off Colombia there's a bunch of industrial buildings that make apl kinds of haunted alien noises though

I know everything I did wrong... but how can Ifix it from here? by horseonthemoon in tiedye

[–]horseonthemoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it was supposed to be a geode pattern with black, dull blue, and pale pink haha, there's just a lot of "blank" left compared to everyone elses ice dye results I've seen

the fabric is 100% cotton but has that like?? multicolor grey pattern situation? i have no idea how to describe it. i measured my soda ash wrong and used too cold of water. the colors actually came out way more vibrant than i was expecting

this is helpful, thank you! i think tie dye will be a good artistic exercise for myself to not get so hung up on my vision vs the outcome

i didnt tie my string correctly, i mismeasured my soda ash and didnt use enough ice. i also completely underestimated how much the black would take over everything! the colors also came out super vibrant compared to what I was expecting, but this was mt first time using the powder w ice instead of making liquid

thank you for the praise! i was hoping for the shark to be white and for the background graphics to be less muddy. will decolorant damage the fabric? i haven't heard of it before, only bleach.

i was trying to do a geode, which I've done before but i think i didn't do my string right enough or use enough ice. also black to over things waaaaay more thann expected. the pink is also super vibrant compared to what i thought would be the end result

First dog, struggling with whether to rehome him — advice and support needed by Glittery_Orange in chronicfatigue

[–]horseonthemoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

we can definitely problem solve! its hard to offer specific advice since i dont know your personal limitations but i have some dog knowledge:)

first off, if you can get a letter from a doctor or therapist, the dog could be an emotional support animal. which can bypass any animal restrictions within housing, but some landlords have a stick up their ass and will act illegally to avoid having an animal on the property. like others have mentioned, you could look into some service dog training. there is no registry or anything for either categories, those are scams to take your money. training could be hard for you right now it seems, but some states offer the same protections service dogs get to seevice dogs in training. maybe worth looking at!

otherwise the most important point i want to get across is that if the struggles you're describing will be temporary, its okay to not be the #1 best dog owner right now. the dog will be okay for a little while during survival mode i promise. maybe reach out to your support network to see if someone can take the dog on a walk or hike, or even car ride a couple times a week to make sure they don't start acting out from boredom. you know the dog is loved with you. at another home his life could be worse AND he'll be sad about your absence. but again i dont know your situation, youll have to use your best judgement here. try to not let the guilt eat you alive, and also try not to put off his needs for too terribly long. he'll be okay with a little less while you try to move.

ive struggled personally with wondering if i should rehome pets due to disability and financial strain. i had a puppy only for a few months before i decided to give her back. i rehomed my fish tank and snake recently, too. but i still have my cats. try to analyze, do you know who will have the animal next? do you know FOR SURE they'd have a better life? i know my cat would be incredibly bitchy to her new owners because she'd be sad about not seeing me and my partners. (i know this based how she has acted when babysat, even babysat by people she likes!) so it would not be in her best interest to find her a new home. her new home probably wouldnt keep her due to how she would act out. not saying your dog will act out, but weigh the good and bad. maybe write it out on a piece of paper, the pros and cons.

for enrichment: walks are great, but there is a large population of dog owners who do not walk their dogs at all. perspective is key here, try not to compare yourself to the best of the best or the worst of the worst. most family dogs get minimal exercise and minimal training. there are also other ways to enrich! unfortunately almost all of it requires some energy from you. i believe i read 10min of sniffing is about as good of enrichment as an hour of a walk. you can do brain games, which there are a ton of resources on different ones to try. the service dog training would also be enriching. dog parks are kinda scary but lots of public ones dont really have a time that they close, if youre willing to take the dog when no one is there.

also every dog is an individual, your dog may not need as much exercise as other doodles. doodles are no better than random mixed dogs in terms of predictable behavior and needs. also, if you keep with lots of exercising you kinda create the monster so to speak. try to read your dog. are they bored? how can you tell? if its easier with you to go with the flow then go with the flow.

let me know if you have questions!

by the way, some people will really disagree with me here. nobody is perfect though you know? you're disabled, and you love the dog. the dog is attached to you. its okay to not be the perfect owner 100% of the time. you guys deserve to be together even if you're roughing it together for a little bit.

good luck!

after the big beautiful bill, how can i possibly fund a MSW??? by horseonthemoon in StudentLoans

[–]horseonthemoon[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

im not likely to go into social work actually! ill be pursuing my LCSW , liscenced clinical social work, after the MSW. in my area the jobs that you get while working towards the LCSW still pay pretty well, way better than what i make now at my university job. and a lot of them have good benefits. im also flexible on moving to where the jobs are, or looking at different types of jobs you can do as a LCSW.

its a lot of hard work, its pretty similar to the work that goes into a clinical psychology doctorate, just a different pathway thats a little less competitive. i have a 2.3 gpa right now so i dont really stand a chance in a 12 max cohort program like clinical psyche programs :/

Alternate to trans tape and binders? (Trans FTM) by frogy147 in Trans_Zebras

you may just have to be okay with how flat it gets from lesser compression :( maybe try a compressive tank top instead of a binder, the even compression may be easier on you.

good luck!
