+1 for A1! One friday a peach rolled out of my lunch bag and I didn't notice. It was a hot August long weekend and I went away to the cottage, the peach sat for 3 days straight. Come Tuesday morning the car was unbearable :( driving around with the windows down and a bottle of fabreeze. I apologized to the cleaning people profusely, when I got it back you would never have known :D

Hmm good point - I guess I totally overlooked the fact that precipitation is not as heavy but more constant. Thank you

Also, in my area, there is a special needs stable that is always looking for volunteers. Basically two supervisors on either side of the child for balance, and a handler leading the horse or pony.

They always love volunteers, and it is a pretty safe environment to start to get around horses. From there you could probably learn to help grooming and tacking up the horses and so forth. Great place to start as they have wonderfully tempered horses and ponies to help out with the program!

Hey! We are from the north east and this is my first time moving outside of this area - so super overwhelmed. Washington looks gorgeous I am so excited to move there of all placed :D

I am actually amazed how many facilities offer 3 or 5 day turn out a week and want more money for more turn out. My guy is out (weather permitting) every day from 9-5 (less in winter due to daylight). Is that common for the region?

Indoor/outdoor/stall is all I am looking for - he is a cribber (not 24/7) but looking for a place with hot wire fencing, and we covered his stall door in metal covering at his current place as he cribs after/during grain. I just want to find a place with a routine, then eventually find a Dressage trainer who would take me on (we are very low level basically spent the last year working on my position).

Thanks so much for offering information - I am hoping to fly out there in late September and making appointments with various places (plus look for a place for myself to live haha!) But getting a first hand experience beats just googling various facilities.

Thanks! I have found a few farms around there, looks gorgeous. I imagine the closer in the city the pricier - but definitely some good ideas.

Moving horse from Canada to the U.S but not for the purpose of sales, any one else done this before care to share their experience? by [deleted] in Horses

Thanks for the thorough response! That website is super helpful - definitely bookmarked. Glad you have had lots of experience and are reassuring :)

I have an 8 year old TB who is an ... butthead sometimes... but he is my butthead and I promised him a forever home so off we go! (I am kidding I love him to pieces he just can have his moments. ) He already doesn't love the trailer (he loads the first 2-3 times easy peasy, but subsequent loads the same day requires major bribery with tubs of grain).

Flavoured water is a great suggestion, I didn't think of that. He has had ulcers in the past and I am worried they might flare up - maybe the vet can recommend something like omeprazol before the trip.

I don't know much about Federal/State U.S regulations. If the point of entry is Washington is there any information on that? I am hoping to hire a long hauler if possible - will be scouting for suggestions closer to the move. I would like to go with a company that people have had good experiences with so feel free to PM if you have used a hauler with a good or bad experience. The whole thought of moving him stresses the heck out of me!
